More About The Selected Letters of Anton Chekhov from The Antiquarian Resource,
By
This review is from: The Selected Letters of Anton Chekhov (Paperback)
More about The Selected Letters of Anton Chekhov, Edited and with an introduction by Lillian Hellman By The Antiquarian ResourceThis text was first published in 1955, this copy reads "Second Farrar, Straus, & Giroux publication," 1984. It includes Translator's Notes, Introduction by Hellman, Biographical Notes, Index. Letters range between 1885 to 1904. This paperback is 330 pages, a six inch by nine inch paperback. The letters offer a wide range of literary quality and subjects addressed. They begin when he was 25 years old onto when he is near his death. He writes letters after he has tuberculosis and when he still continues to work and travel. He discusses traveling to prison colonies in Siberia and Sakhalin Island. I love to read candid letters written by artists. He discusses the handling of his famous plays and other topics I found interesting. I love Chekhov's plays and the letters were a page turner for me so I would recommend the work to any lover of reading more of the times or this writer. The Antiquarian Resource, Jan. 2012 |
