5.0 out of 5 stars London After Midnight, WAY above average
I was finally able to locate this hard to find CD through Amazon and I tell you - it was well worth the wait. I have been long time fan of the band but this particular CD eluded me until now. I am surprised to read that the previous reviewer thought the song "Revenge" was bland, because this is by far one of the most intense alternative songs of the '90s. I...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good in it's own right, But Not My Thing
I have heard comparisons of London After Midnight to Bauhaus, but Bauhaus has the ability to evoke emotions besides just cheezy despair or sillyish angst, which is really all LAM does for me. I don't know, they have some good songs, like Claire's Horrors, but i can certainly live without this album. Not something i listen to really at all on my own, when someone else...

I read an interview with the songwriter from a German magazine where he wrote of his inspiration and influence with this song, in particular the infamous "girl getting whipped" part of the song, and the fact that it eludes to "Jesus Christ Superstar" years before Marilyn Manson ever thought of doing it, something only the savvy-est of listeners would catch. This is the most intense song on the CD, but not the end of the bright spots. Just about every other song is entertaining, with great lyrics which tread in the deep end of wit to the dark corners of despair. Highly Recommended.

Sean Brennan and the band did excellent on this CD. All songs are not just the simple "In Death we'll be together" or the distorted one chord guitar pieces that make other music boring and plain *all the same*. They did very well on this CD especially on "This Paradise" as it became one of my favorite songs the minute I heard it. This CD truly is a dark treasure to any musical grimoire you have at home.

5.0 out of 5 stars LAM: Great Music, January 10, 2005
This review is from: Selected Scenes From the End of the World (Audio CD)
Some may say that LAM is a good 'gothic' band but the correct description is just 'a kick ass' band no matter what genre! A must have CD!(your best nightmare is one of my fave songs ever!) I recommend you by all three of LAM's cd. Sean's voice is wonderful, you'll be hooked!

Very good first effort from LAM. Very original. And just so everyone knows, the reviewer from Sarasota, FL two spaces below this one is actually my freind, an obsessed fan who is in love with one of the guys in the band, but when the band toured here, the guy wasn't interested in my freind. So now my freind is mad so they wrote that bad review. Sorry. But LAM is great, check them out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truely breath-taking, February 4, 2005
This review is from: Selected Scenes From the End of the World (Audio CD)
This cd is probably the most unique goth music I have ever heard! Sean Brennan's voice is spectacular and majestic. No one that I know of disaggrees with this cd. This cd truely gives the goth genre so much respect. You will find yourself playing it over and over, it doesn't tire in it's glory, it just keeps getting better and better!

5.0 out of 5 stars get it, you suck if you dont., May 31, 2004
This review is from: Selected Scenes From the End of the World (Audio CD)
this is london after midnight's best, they use a combo of perfectly written emotionfilled lyrics and a catchy synth-popish goth rock mlody. for a new goth rock band LAM is perfect and should be bought only by those who will cherish it, i'd definitly pick it up and give it a listen to. the track "spider and fly" is by the best track, "your best nightmare" would be the second best, but all around a good cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic band and musicians, July 24, 1999

I just HAD to add my 2 cents; London After Midnight shines on this recording, the music is violent to romantic, the lyrics painting moods. Quite well done considering this was recorded when the band was only 2 years old, I believe. It is what started a phenominon launching LAM to underground greatness in the goth scene that continues to this day. An essential addition to your collection. And if I might add, not at all what you would think of as Goth, that is a term that doesn't fit in the least. They have their own sound, and calling them Goth is an injustice IMO.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great release for mature listeners, October 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Selected Scenes From the End of the World (Audio CD)
This band has a maturity and sarcasm that is often overlooked by the "less than bright" individuals. There is nothing cheesy about this album, it evokes deep emotions and creates gorgeous soundscapes and deals with themes that no other band associated with the genre has even tried to broach, and does so intelligently and with a strong command of poetic skill. The 2 songs that do delve into the more "goth " side of things are done in such a sarcastic and obviously off handed fashion that you can't help but give these guys credit and laugh at the people who think those 2 songs are meant to be serious.
