The Selected Works of Nigel Tomm (2006/2007) contains three major texts of Nigel Tomm from which the phenomenon of literature's remixing has started: 'Shakespeare's Sonnets Remixed' (2006), 'Shakespeare's Hamlet Remixed' (2007) and 'Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet Remixed' (2007); plus, the book includes previously unpublished 'Elvis Presley's Love Me Tender Remix' (2007).
I'm Nigel Tomm - I am an artist. My art is applied discipline involving the systematic, and often scientific, study of human/animal mental functions and behavior. Occasionally, in addition or opposition to employing the scientific method, my art also relies on symbolic interpretation and critical analysis, although it often does so less prominently than social sciences such as sociology. I, Nigel Tomm, study such phenomena as perception, cognition, attention, emotion, motivation, personality, behavior and interpersonal relationships. Sometimes I also study the unconscious mind. I, Nigel Tomm, attempt to understand the role of mental functions in individual and social behavior, while also exploring the underlying physiological and neurological processes. My art includes many sub-fields of study and applications concerned with such areas as human development, sports, health, industry, media and law. My art incorporates research from the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities. My art is the study of general and fundamental problems concerning matters such as existence, knowledge, truth, beauty, law, justice, validity, mind, and language. If art is then the sum total of everything of which we are aware, my art is the reservoir of everything we can remember, all that is accessible to voluntary recall: the storehouse of memory. This leaves the not-my-art area of mental life to contain all the more primitive drives and impulses influencing our actions without our necessarily ever becoming fully aware of them, together with every important constellation of ideas or memories with a strong emotional charge, which have at one time been present in my art but have since been repressed so that they are no longer available to it, even through introspection or attempts at memory. My art is a logical system that attempts to deal with contradictions in a discriminating way. Alternatively, my art is the subfield of art that is concerned with studying and developing inconsistency-tolerant systems of art. The primary motivation for my art is the conviction that it ought to be possible to reason with inconsistent information in a controlled and discriminating way. My art is a major area of art concerned with spatial properties that are preserved under continuous deformations of objects, for example deformations that involve stretching, but no tearing or gluing.
