5.0 out of 5 stars Two classics of Romanian literature
I definitely recommend this book to anybody interested in knowing the Romanian soul as seen from the eyes of two master writers of the 19th century. You will be charmed by Eminescu's romantic creations, spinning history, religion, philosophy, love and so much more, while Creanga will definitely cheer you up with his funny descriptions of life in the country.

This review is from: Selected Works of Ion Creanga and Mihai Eminescu (Hardcover)
This is a good place to start if you're in any way interested in Romanian culture as Creanga and Eminescu are Romanian cultural legends. As usual, though the translations are good, the originals are always best, as you would know if you've read works by any great translated writer.

Creanga specialised in stories for children but these stories are also allegorical, so subtle that children don't notice but adults will. I remember his stories firing up my imagination and I have a purse with two coins.

Eminescu is, in my opinion, the greatest of the Romantics because he had so much more to say and today he is more or less ignored by the West. If you go to visit his home there will be no one there but the guide because Romanians are not aware that tourism can be their greatest strength.
