Ann's done it again... another beautiful book. This book takes the wisdom and insight she shared in 1000 Gifts and pairs that wisdom and insight with her own photographs of life, as she captures the gifts that have come each and every day. Page after page of amazing photos could stand alone but the selections that Ann has paired with the photographs are what truly make this book stand out. For those who haven't read 1000 Gifts or are busy living life and want snippets of truth written in Ann's poetic prose, this is a must-have and is a great book for gift giving. I arrived home to find this amazing book waiting for me outside my front door. Selections from One Thousand Gifts really points to the one Gift that lasts forever, the Giver of All gifts, Jesus Christ. This little book is big inside with powerful words and photography that moves the heart. Imagine discovering the secrets in life that help you make it through trials and find grace even in the darkest moments. Ann discovers the secret when she writes "Sometimes you don't know when you're taking the first step through a door until you're already inside." She began a gift list: "Not of gifts I want but of gifts I already have." This book comes with a challenge to all who dare grab it and open the pages to find joy in what really matters. Once you begin, you'll never be the same.

Ann Voskamp is the most gifted writer I have ever come across. Her language is beautiful and inspiring. I just bought 4 of these books to give to friends. I read One Thousand Gifts last year and it changed my life. The vulnerability she shares as she writes opens the heart and you find yourself noticing life and beauty all around you. This is a book well worth purchasing.

I don't usually go for coffee table books. My coffee table is for practical things like my tea mug and the book I am currently reading. I don't believe in dusting around decorations. But I was recently given a copy of Selections from One Thousand Gifts; Finding Joy in What Really Matters.

As someone who has kept a list of things for which I am thankful for several years, I find in Ann Voskamp a kindred spirit. "I am a hunter of beauty," Ann writes (p. 53), "and I move slow and keep eyes wide, every fiber of every muscle sensing all wonder, and this is the thrill of the hunt.

"I hunger to taste life.

"To taste God."

Ann Voskamp's list came out of tragedy. Some of her theology may not quite jibe with yours. She is a poetic writer whose style is not for everyone. (Some of the reviews on Amazon of the original best-seller are scathing.) But in the small pieces of these selections, I find them not just eye-opening, but soul-opening. Her photographs are exquisite. The script of the items on her list gives a touch of intimacy; the decorations on the page enhance the whole; in short, this is a beautiful piece of book-making. It will find a place in my house, not on the coffee table where it would only get shoved aside to make room for the latest Smithsonian or National Geographic, but someplace where I can pick it up and read it in small bites like the bedside or even the bathroom and be reminded of why I keep searching for specific people, events, gifts and answers to prayer for which to thankful and in which I can see God's hand in my life.

In Selections from One Thousand Gifts, Finding JOY in What Really Matters, gifted author and photographer Ann Voskamp uses her vivid photos and unusual writing style to record her thankfulness and praise to God.

Challenged to list 1,000 gifts by a friend, Ann has written and collected thousands of blessings. Some of which she shares in this book (and in One Thousand Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are). This is a beautiful little gift book, never a plain page, each elaborate design and the personality of Ann shining through. A book you won't want to put down, but will want to read straight through and soak in. And read again.

Ann Voskamp truly has a way with words. An unusual style, one that slows you down and gets you to thinking. And personally realizing that I should be more thankful. And wondering if I can find 1,000 things for which to be thankful? Now I can't wait to get out my camera and my journal...

This charming little book is like a homey reunion with the writer of One Thousand Gifts in which she shares her personal photos and evocative tidbits from the original book. You will want to return to it many times for the inspiration of the words and the fresh, clarity of the photos. I would like to give a copy to all my friends!
