an excellent sampler of patriotic military music,

I love this CD because it combines into one disc many outstanding and well recorded (Telarc DDD) performances of a variety of patriotic military tunes. For someone who doesn't want to break down and buy the entire "Victory at Sea" set, along with soundtracks to "Patton," "Casablanca" and more, this is a fine choice. My only complaint would be that conductor Kunzel has a habit of adding his own flourishes to pieces. But the outstanding clarity of the Telarc sound and the grandness of the Cincinnati Pops counters this.

Impressive Range of Themes and Scores from the Genre,

I have always enjoyed themes and scores from military/war films. I enjoy the genre. This is a good collection encompassing many years of films and interpretations and interpolations of patriotic incorporated into the scores as are evident in the music represented in such films. Many of the tracks are rousing in nature but there are contemplative moments to be found here as well. The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra once again conducted by Erich Kunzel has issued another fine CD.

Telarc has always been known for "sound", and this is no exception. For those, however, who buy it for the Victory at Sea music, you'd be better served buying the re-mastered Victory at Sea CDs. It's the difference between an original and a re-recorded version.
