5.0 out of 5 stars Great Item!
The item is definitely a great collectible and an album you can listen to anytime. It includes limited edition tracks sang on this once-in-a-lifetime concert. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is a fan of Selena or Tejano music in general.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Feelin It...
I'm sorry, but this CD is a joke. I watched the tribute in disbelief when it aired and was truly taken aback. I felt that most of the performers butcherd Selena's songs, The re-inacments were not of Selena's style, and most of the people who sang her songs were not sincere at all. It was a big dissapoitment for me, being a Selena fan. The only few people who I thought...

The only few people who I thought were at least decent was Gloria Estefan and the young Puerto Rican who sang "No Debes Jugar." I must say, I do question the vocal abilities of some of the females who sang; Ana Barbara, Thalia...But I am not writing this review to bash anyone, I'm writing to give my opinion of this albume. Personally, I wouldn't buy it becuase for me it's not a very good representation of what Selena/Tejano is. If you want a good Selena cd, I reccomend 'Selena Ones'(cd & dvd)-which has 20 tracks of her biggest hits and 13 of her music videos.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed bag: Some good some not so good; wait for the DVD to come out!, June 27, 2005
This review is from: Selena ¡Vive! (Audio CD)
I share the exact sentiments of all the "negative" reviews regarding this cd/concert with the exception of one. I thought Pepe Aguilar did an extremely boring job in his performance! If it was Juan Gabriel or Rocio Durcal they would have really given her song justice!

That said, I do agree that there was not "enough" representation from artists who really "knew" Selena. There is no question that Shelly Lares, Elida Reyna (of Avante) and Stephanie Lynn (of High Energy) should have performed!! Stephanie Lynn after all sang backup on Selena's song "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" (yes, that's her vocals you hear in the song!).

As one reviewer noted, India's performance was definitely genuine. And as much as I like Gloria Estefan, her vocal straining on "I Could Fall In Love," was very disappointing. Also, unfortunately, some performers seemed more like they were promoting themself rather than giving a heart-felt homage to Selena.

Additionally, a dress-code should have been enforced! I don't care what those singers wear on their on time. As a matter of fact, I firmly believe in individuality. However, they way Ana Barbara, Paulina Rubio, and Alejandra Guzman were dressed, I bet many kids nationwide had to turn away at their parent's request. That was just not right. This was a tribute concert! Not a block party! And yes, I'm a very liberal person! But c'mon...there is a right time and not a right time to dress that way.

Further, as unpopular as this may have been, I think this should have not been a live concert. Some of the vocals by the singers were really off and there were even technical problems. If it was not live, it would have given them time to edit those mistakes out and package it better.

Still, the final song in this concert, sung by the Reina herself, made this concert all worthwhile. Selena's teardrop performance of "Como La Flor" accompanied with a children's chorus and the night's performers, redeemed all those mistakes made by so-called "established" artists (who are supposed to be able to sing live like Selena could). Even in her passing, 10 years later, Selena should those artists and everyone else what we wish we could have back. Music will never be the same without her. But her music always lives on.

1.0 out of 5 stars When you run out of Greatest Hits albums to release......, May 22, 2005
This review is from: Selena ¡Vive! (Audio CD)
So this is what Selena's father resorts to when he doesn't want to release the 10th greatest hits album of the same rehashed songs? I guess anything for a quick buck. Anyone who saw this concert on tv knows how tragic this event was...and how fake! I felt like I was watching a 2-hour long infomercial. The only artist who seemed to even seem half sincere was India. God bless her and that beautiful voice. She was also one of the few to do any justice to Selena's timeless classics. I am sure Selena's father already has another 5 greatest hits compilations lined up in case this tribute album flops, which I hope it does. I am all for worthwhile new Selena releases with remastered/remixed/unreleased material, but otherwise I say let Selena rest in peace and stop cashing in on her legacy.

4.0 out of 5 stars THIS ONLY PROVED HOW AMAZING SELENA REALLY WAS AND STILL IS..., September 5, 2005
This review is from: Selena ¡Vive! (Audio CD)
Yes, everybodys complaints about this album definately feel legitimate...missing memorable performances such as Pepe's interpretation of No Me Queda Mas and others... and i honestly believe that the reason the cd isn't the live version of the concert is because the vocals from the artists were very poor that night. Now i've been a Selena fan for many years and this only proved to me how amazing Selena was and what talent she really had. Hardly any of the performers could sing Selena's songs nearly to the ability that she was able to pump them out. Selena was truly a star. But that's besides the point...

The cd at first really dissappointed me... but i found myself listening to it more and more everyday and I FELL IN LOVE WITH IT... My favorite vocals on the cd were 1) Ana Gabriel's TU SOLO TU, 2)alicia villareal's SI UNA VEZ and 3)India's NO DEBES JUGAR. They really did a good job i felt. But i still love blasting this cd in my car everyday... yes the artists could not sing NEARLY AS GOOD AS SELENA COULD but it was still so nice to hear other artists sing her songs. It made me miss her even more.

SO TO END THIS...THIS IS STILL AN ALBUM EVERY SELENA FAN SHOULD HAVE... AND I THINK IF YOU'RE A SELENA FAN YOU WOULD REALLY FALL IN LOVE WITH IT TOO...I MEAN COME ON...HOW COULD ANYONE HATE ANYTHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH SELENA, IT'S not possible.
SO PLEASE MAKE THIS PURCHASE AND GIVE IT AT LEAST A WEEK OF LISTENING TOO, AND IF YOU'RE A REAL SELENA FAN, I THINK IT WILL TOUCH YOUR HEART AS IT DID MINE, AND KEEP YOU LISTENING TO SELENA'S MUSIC.

3.0 out of 5 stars Selena iVIVE!, July 22, 2005
This review is from: Selena ¡Vive! (Audio CD)
Well, I personally atended the Tribute Concert. It was amazing, you could feel the energy. I think that most of the artists weren't at their best but, then again the artists were supposed to do their own thing with the songs and put their own touch to Selena's songs; that was kind of the purpose of the concert. The CD was the only dissappointment I had, because it did not contain all the artists like: Pepe Aguilar, Ana Barbara, Banda El Recodo, Montez de Durango, Bobby Pulido, Jay Perez, Olga Tañon, Paulina Rubío, The Kumbia Kings, or the Finally Remake of Como La Flor. I think that Paulina's version of Fotos y Recuerdos was the best. This cd is just a fraction of the show and they are recorded in the studio so they sound way better then what they did live.

4.0 out of 5 stars La Reina, June 10, 2005

This review is from: Selena ¡Vive! (Audio CD)
This album is a must for any Selena fan. The concert held in her honor was very touching. Seeing her mother Marcella in the front row crying her eyes out when Pete Astudillo sang "Como Te Extrano" was heartbreaking. I liked the fact that different artists had the freedom to put their own spin of these classics.
India's salsa version of "No Debes Jugar" is a gem, I hope she releases it as a single, it could be a hit.
Alicia Villareal's take on "Si Una Vez" did it justice.
Gloria's rendition of "I Could Fall In Love" is superb.
Alejandra Guzman's version of "Bidi" is fun and playful, I love her voice and the different spin on the track. I especially liked the boustier she wore on stage in honor of Selena.
The artists represented on this disc show the cultural versatility that Selena had. From English pop artists, to tropical salsa artists, Selena was admired by many diverse artists.
Paulina Rubio said it best, "Selena, We Love You!!!"

5.0 out of 5 stars A moving tribute!, May 15, 2005
This review is from: Selena ¡Vive! (Audio CD)
I have not stopped listening to this CD since I bought it. I know that some will complain about the tracks that are missing: Bobby Pulido, Olga Tanon, and Paulina... But the tracks that are here are well worth the price. I love Alejandra's version of "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" and Thalia's "Amor Prohibido." Ana Gabriel's "Tu Solo Tu" alone would be worth the price of the cd as well. India's "No Debes Jugar" salsa romp is definitely another standout. But the cake goes to Alicia Villareal's "Si Una Vez," she knocks this one out of the ballpark. Alicia's delivery and feeling totally sell the song. The only complaint I do have is that the duet between Selena and her brother "Baila Esta Kumbia" can only be found on his CD "Duetos." That was all about money making and selling his own record. That track belonged here. (By the way, "Duetos" by the Kumbia Kings does contain "I Could Fall In Love" in a new cumbia version.... totally worth buying too. But all in all a great, moving, emotional tribute to the great Selena!!!!
