5.0 out of 5 stars This VHS tape was worth every penny!
I was so excited when I found out that EMI Latin had realeased this remarkable tape of Selena's videos. I enjoyed watching all the videos that made Selena such a SUPER STAR. I have been a fan of Selena's since 1995, and I wondered if I would ever get to see these videos, and not only bits and pieces here and there. This is truly a must have collectors item for all...

3.0 out of 5 stars ALL MY HITS - TODOS MIS EXITOS ON VIDEO
I loved this video but it would have been nice if they had different people give commentaries about each video and the making of each video. (i.e. Abraham remembering things about when it was filmed or the idea behind them.) but I enjoyed it anyway.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is an excellent video., November 10, 1999

This review is from: Selena - All My Hits (Todos Mis Exitos) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
My 21 month year old son loves watching Selena on video. So, when I heard that EMI Latin was releasing Todo Mis Exitos on video, I snatched up the opportunity to buy the tape. I really enjoyed seeing Selena's videos and so did my son. I was just surprised that a couple of her hit songs weren't on the video. For example, "Como La Flor", "Fotos y Recuerdos", "El Chico del Apartemento 512", and of course, her famous "Disco Medley" performed live at the Astrodome. I had hoped that for those songs, in which Selena hadn't made a video, EMI Latin would use live concert footage for those songs. Don't get me wrong, I love this video, and highly recommend it to all of the Selena fans out there. Maybe EMI Latin will release one of her live concert performances on VHS, as well. That would be awesome!

Oh, let me tell you when I saw the tape at the video store I went crazy, I just love the tape . I been looking for it every where , it is so good except for one thing , I really will like to see something about SELENA without saying this two words "jennifer lopez" , when I was wachting the tape at the end I heard one of my favorite songs SIEMPRE HACE FRIO and I got very happy until I looked at my tv and in the background you could see "jennifer lopez" , come on people !I belive that SELENA left behind lots of tape of her concerts , you couldn't try to put one of them in it , please I don't think that anybody in this world could replace SELENA , everybody is different. So, please try to avoid thinking about jenifer when thinking of Selena two very, very differents kinds of people. But, anyways the tape is good except for what I already told you.

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful, angelic and timeless Selena...., November 2, 2004
This review is from: Selena - All My Hits (Todos Mis Exitos) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I felt so fortunate that those of us who got to know Selena and her music after she died, have these beautiful, energetic and touching music videos to remember her by. Not only was Selena a beautiful woman (inside and out), but her music videos were very well-done and really reflected the tone of her songs.

There are a great cross-section of music videos on this tape that also present great examples of some of Selena's greatest hits, hence, the title "Todos Mis Exitos." Selena was and remains to be truly one of the most successful, well-loved, respected and talented Tejana/Tex-Mex/Mexican-American entertainers known not only in the Mexican and Mexican-American communities, but in Central and South America and in North America. Selena could go from belting out an expressive and catchy tejana cumbia for people to dance to, to a ballad, to English-Language pop, to traditional mariachi songs. The music videos showcase Selena's stunning beauty, her gorgeous vocals and the spellbinding charisma that made her many fans from all of generations and backgrounds fall in love with her.

1. "Amor Prohibido"--The lyrics for this beautiful, heartfelt cumbia were inspired by the relationship between Selena's grandparents. Literally, the song title means "Forbidden Love." Theirs was a forbidden love because her grandmother and grandfather came from different social classes in Mexico. The video is sunny, warm and beautiful to look at. This was one of the videos she did the year before she was killed in 1995 by the president of her fan club, Yolanda Saldivar. The video was shot outdoors in what looks like the desert. The sun is shining and Selena is casually dressed in jeans and a long-sleeved t-shirt as she as seen with the object of her affection, a handsome young man in black shirt and jeans.

2. "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom"--This music video is one of the best of Selena's I have ever seen. (This song is also from the "Amor Prohibido" album.) Beautiful Selena is dancing on a dock overlooking the water, surrounded by her fans, as she sings. Her wavy, long black hair is blowing in the breeze and she is wearing a long, colorful sarong with a white t-shirt. This song is about Selena's unrequited crush. In the video, he is a tall, blonde guy who she meets at a gas station while she is pumping gas for her Jeep. This song is so catchy! It is a cross between cumbia and also a little on the reggae side.

3. "Buenos Amigos" ("Good Friends")--This is Selena's duet with Alvaro Torres. It is a slow song about two friends considering the possiblity of being "more than friends." While Alvaro wants to go ahead and take it to the next level, Selena's part of the song considers the fact that people who start out as good friends could end up in a tragic love relationship. Since this song is a ballad, what says ballad more than an orchestra, a beautiful woman in a black dress and a man in a tuxedo? This is the mood the video maintains throughout (except when Selena dons black pants, jacket and baseball cap embroidered with sequins--I think this was when that kind of look was popular with Paula Abdul and Janet Jackson--1991 maybe?).

4. "Dondequiera Que Estes" ("Wherever You Are")--This is a pop ballad that Selena did with the Nuyoriquen pop group, The Barrio Boyz. This song is about "tu primer amor" (your first love), the one that got away but that you can never forget. Selena is clad in black--two outfits, actually. One is a leather skirt with form-fitting top, then there's the pantsuit. She also dances for us. The guys are wearing street clothes and they are all singing outside together in what appears to be an inner city neighborhood. Although this video is kind of funky and quite different from the other videos in this collection, I absolutely love how Selena really lets loose on this song. In this song, it is plain to see that Selena's talents did not end with traditional, Mexican-rhythms and melodies alone. When she freestyles on this track, we can hear her r&b and pop influences as well, also maybe even a little inspiration from gospel. The Barrio Boyz were a very popular Latino :"boy band" that Selena was a great fan of. Their smooth crooning really blends well with her open bravado, expression and interpretation of the music. From what I know, this was the last music video Selena completed before her death, and it was released after her untimely murder.

5. "Dreaming of You"--When I first heard this song in 1995, I couldn't stop crying. It wasn't just that Selena died (which, for me, was unthinkable and incredibly sad), but that this song really is one of the most beautiful, touching and timeless songs that really speaks for itself. "Late at night when all the world is sleeping/I stay up and think of you/And I wish on a star, that somewhere you are thinking of me too" Those first few lines just melt even the iciest heart. This song was recorded for Selena's first "cross over" album into mainstream pop culture. Though, Selena was born and raised in Texas, she sang predominantly and exclusively in Spanish for her audience (with only a couple of exceptions), up until she began to perform Donna Summer disco hits for her fans. This title cut from the album was a prelude to what would be, most certainly, a surefire shot to stardom in the Anglo music scene, as well as the Latino music scene. Since Selena had already passed away, when the song was released, the music became a backdrop for the story that unfolds in this music video. A young woman is dreaming of her lover and prepares to leave her father's home and elope with him. We watch her dream of him, pack her suitcase, and kiss her sleeping father good-bye. Romantic and poignant.

6. "I Could Fall in Love"--This song was another one of the pop songs released on the "Dreaming of You" English-Language album. A touching montage of Selena's concerts, home videos, photos, and shots from music videos is used to convey the depth of love that existed in the heart of this beautiful performer for her fans, for the music and for life.

7. "La Carcacha" ("The Junkpile")--This is a fun and funky cumbia video. It is a true example of the earlier work of Selena y Los Dinos. Selena must have been about seventeen when they made this music video. She appears in red bustier and tight black pants. We see shots of her band, "Los Dinos" in matching black and red outfits (including a glimpse of her husband-to-be, Chris Perez, on guitar). The camera shots are jagged, purposely made to look unprofessional and wobbly. You can just tell they were making fun of themselves and it is really quite entertaining. The song is about a young woman, her boyfriend "who isn't that handsome, but he's still my faithful guy," and his junkpile car.

8. "La Llamada" ("The Phone Call")--This is a great music video spliced with color and black-and-white footage. This song is about a bad break-up and, must importantly, "no vales la pena" ("you aren't worth the pain"). Selena is at a party (that is the black-and-white footage) dancing and forgetting all about the man who wasn't right for her. Then, it switches to the color part where Selena is looking stunningly sassy, decked out in a black dress. This is the perfect cumbia to get you up, dancing and forgetting about your troubles.

9. "No Me Queda Mas" ("I Don't Have a Choice")--This is a stunningly beautiful song written for Selena's sister, Suzette Quintanilla, by one of the band members. It is a song about loving someone who doesn't love you the same way. Selena appears in jeans and t-shirt at a Mexican restaurant, sitting next to the mariachi band, and waiting for her lover to arrive. The waiter appears with a note for her. In Spanish it reads, "We are moving in different directions..." Selena is devastated, sips her drink and walks away. The song starts with soaring instrumentation (trumpets, string, full orchestra), then Selena appears in a stunningly beautiful golden brocade gown with upswept hair, to sing to us her story of heartbreak and loss. She recounts the memories she has of her lost love in video montages with Selena and her ex-boyfriend, holding each other, going on a horseback ride, riding an amusement park ride and walking together. It isn't until we see her in the background while he is getting married to another woman that we really realize her sad reality. One of my favorite videos, by far.

10. "No Quiero Saber" ("I Don't Want to Know")--This is a fun video. It actually is a "tropical remix" of the original version. The song talks about not wanting to know about the troubles of the world, to find hope and joy in singing, dancing and living life to the fullest ("viviendo la vida hasta lo maximo"). The video intersplices television footage of Selena performing the song on a Spanish-language program, a more grown-up Selena dancing in front of the camera and some concert footage, as well. Really fun.

11. "Siempre Hace Frio" ("It's Always Cold")--This song gives me chills whenever I hear it. The video is pretty eery, too. This is a traditional mariachi song that has been interpreted by many (Linda Ronstadt, amongst others). It is about heartbreak--don't a lot of the best ones always talk about that? This video was released after Selena's death. I think the release of this video may have coincided with the release of the film, "Selena" (starring Jennifer Lopez). Jennifer Lopez appears as what could be "the ghost of Selena." We see her walking, as if preoccupied by something, and this is also interspliced with footage of Selena's concerts--particularly her mariachi performances. We see her as a young teenager, up until the time right before she passed away.

12. "Techo Cumbia"--"This is serious music...we need some serious music..." We hear the voice of a Caribbean guy call out. "Muevete, muevete y alto..." is Selena's response. This is some serious cumbia, folks. I love this song because it parodies and sends up all of those dance videos people buy to learn dance steps. All of a sudden, a huge mob of people show up and start dancing--all couples, all races. We also see footage of Selena performing the song live in concert in that famous purple disco suit. Awesome!

13. "Tu, Solo, Tu" ("You, Alone, You")--This is another classic mariachi ballad that Selena recorded quite close to her passing. It is beautifully sung and is a great way to close out the collection of videos. As we hear Selena sing about heatbreak and that one person she gave her heart to, who then broke it, we see a great collection of outtakes from her videos. Many of them are really bloopers, along with a few shots of a mariachi band, smiling and playing with a lot of spirit. The lightheartedness of the outtakes make the song less intense, and we can still find it in our hearts to smile even when our hearts break over the great loss of our dear, beautiful Selena. Siempre viviras, Selena!

I love listening to Selena, and with this video you see another side of her persona. From upbeat and vivacious, sultry and sexy, to heartbroken and triumphant, this is a good collection of her best work. My personal favorite, from a music video point of view, is "No Me Queda Mas", which plays out like a great love story in miniature. "I Could Fall In Love" will always be synonymous with her posthumous cross-over, and possibly one of her greatest achievements. The video is truly haunting, with sepia-toned home movie clips intertwined with live performances from her concerts. I give this selection 4 stars, in that it would be so much better in a DVD format. Then, and only then, could I emulate listening to her cd's. By skipping to my favorite video and song, and remembering Selena as only a true fan can do.
