While there is a moducum of useful information in this book, it's pretty outdated. It relies heavily on manual calculations and keeping and updating Excel spreadsheets. Almost every, if not all, online options brokers now have powerful and usually free software that negates the need for manual effort (i.e., "hand" calculating sigmas moving averages, etc. etc.). Think or Swim, Optionsxpress, etc. etc.
Secondly, the author recommends selling options 2 standard deviations from the underlying's current price. Good luck finding a liquid option that far away from the underlying's price. And, if you do, you will have to buy numerous contracts because you'd be lucky to get a dime for the spread. Again, chances of you being able to consistently find a trade that far away is pretty slim. The format of the book is very confusing and not well organized. It's a hard read and I found myself just bypassing page after page that was just full of Excel formulas and mathematical calculations (looks like it was written by a math geek--no offense intended, as I'm one too). I will admit to not having made it to the currency and futures sections, because I was only interested in the section on equities and indexes. I gave the book on extra star out of a sense of fairness. In summary, this is NOT a book for people who know nothing about options trading. You should really have a firm background in options and options trading so that you can evaluate this information intelligently. In retrospect, I'm glad I bought the book used and not new, as generally I was dissappointed. You're better off with books by McMillan, Schaeffer, etc. And actually there is a TON of free educational information on CBOE's website. Check out the videos by Dan Sheridan if you want a solid grounding in spread trading.

I found this book at the library. I have emailed the author about the Excel spreadsheets that are discussed in the book. He has written me back a couple of times.
If you are spreadsheet inclined and want to work up a winning system for consistant profits, this book is for you! |
