5.0 out of 5 stars The book I had been looking for
Although I am very fond of reading, self help books were mostly of no interest to me. Those I had read were full of the autors' opinions on how I should/shouldn't think, behave, feel, express... You have to be this way, and that way... So I usually ended up helping myself by getting rid of these books, that were cludging up the shelves.

Self Analysis, well,...

1.0 out of 5 stars Self Analysis Makes Some Bizarre Claims
L. Ron Hubbard is the discoverer of Dianetics and founder of the Church of Scientology. Most people either love him or hate him. I tried to keep an open mind as I began reading Self Analysis, but I ran into a roadblock in the first two paragraphs of Hubbard's introduction.

He states:

"Self Analysis cannot revive the dead.

5.0 out of 5 stars The book I had been looking for, August 14, 2004

This review is from: Self Analysis (Mass Market Paperback)
Although I am very fond of reading, self help books were mostly of no interest to me. Those I had read were full of the autors' opinions on how I should/shouldn't think, behave, feel, express... You have to be this way, and that way... So I usually ended up helping myself by getting rid of these books, that were cludging up the shelves.

Self Analysis, well, that was different, very different. Instead of focussing on telling me how I had to be, the book starts by presenting different ideas on different aspects of life. Then it goes on by asking you to evaluate your current situation and analyse your attitude towards life, using the chart provided in the book. You actually get to figure it out for yourself, rather then having a guy you never even met tell you what you should think about yourself.

Then, the final section presents series of questions which you can use as a guide to explore différent aspects of your life, and by doing so, improve your understanding of yourself, and your abilities.

Know thyself, the philosopher said. ...but he forgot to say "How".

This is how! I think you can't improve your life by having someone tell you what to do. It's your life, so you have to analyse it on your own.

I have travelled around the world, but no matter how tight my backpack is, there is always a place for that book.

Did I mention I recommand it?

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Way to Increase Your Mental Well Being, June 8, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Self Analysis (Mass Market Paperback)
I read the Self Analysis book some years ago. The book is filled with procedures that you can do on yourself or with another person. I did virtually all of the procedures in the book and I was very happy with the results. I found myself more appreciative of other people, less stressed out, and I just felt more in control of my life. I was not let down by Hubbard's opening statements as to what this book can do for you. Heartily recommend it

5.0 out of 5 stars Depressed? This book can help!, May 6, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Self Analysis (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was awesome. It showed me how my emotions change. And best all - it gave me an easy way to keep me happy and enthusiastic about life. The book is filled with questions that help a person recall things from their past. I don't know how just remembering the things could give me such a great outlook on life - but it certainly did.

It was very easy to read, and most of the book was taken up with the memory exercises. I was actually able to recall things from my childhood that I haven't thought of since!

If you want to find out what it can do for you I definitelly suggest you try it yourself. Don't just take my word for it, try it!

5.0 out of 5 stars I felt great!, August 18, 2005
By
This review is from: Self Analysis (Mass Market Paperback)
Reading this book was interesting, but doing the exercises was great! I felt refreshed and alive. I was happy to help others with this, too - I asked the questions, they did the recalling of past incidents. The people I did this on also felt really good afterwards.

If you feel you could be brighter and more alive, I think this book can help you!

5.0 out of 5 stars really creepy but amazing, August 8, 2006

I was a psychology major in college so I was very skeptical about this book and Dianetics in general. I tried the exercises in this book and they were NOT fun for me at all. The exercises made me feel really creepy and uncomfortable. Sometimes they actually made me feel drowsy and upset. Sometimes the exercises made me feel guilty and scared with a weird kind of dread and anxiety. Despite this I noticed that my memory did improve greatly. On top of that I started feeling happier and more aware of things, more confident too. Something about these excercises helps you to free your mind of bad things that are lurking there and always tugging at your subconscious. I have recommended this book to several friends since then. I have not finished the exercises like the author recommended. Somehow it is still painful to go through them every day but I plan to some day soon. The little time I spent with this book has already helped me a great deal.

5.0 out of 5 stars A simple, effective technique for self improvement., January 30, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Self Analysis (Mass Market Paperback)
Self Analysis is a terrific, simple technique that can be used by well people to improve their lives. The book begins with a simple explanation of life as a game and then proceeds to instruct the reader in the simple technique of Self Analysis. I found the book to be easily read and then performed in the privacy of my own home. After doing the technique for about a month I noticed improvement in several areas of my life. L. Ron Hubbard is well known in the self improvement and science fiction arenas and this book is a pleasure to have and use! Highly recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable, May 5, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Self Analysis (Mass Market Paperback)
Since few people have had relatable experiences, I can only recommend this book. It promises so little and ends up given you so much. The same seems to go with many of the books LRH writes. At first some seemed a bit out there, but then I got to finding out the words he uses aren't what I thought they were. Much of what he talks about in this book is more down-to-earth than some would believe. The rest is unbelievable from any other person than yourself, which is why is is called Self-Analysis. You can rarely waste you time reading ANYTHING. Except reviews from those who don't understand what they are trying to critique. Understand the words and you will understand all that you read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mind Excercise: Works As You Read It!, August 3, 2003
This review is from: Self Analysis (Mass Market Paperback)
I bought this book nearly 9 years ago. I still pick it up and read the processing section about once a year because of how it affected me the first time I read it.

I'm no doctor but if I had to explain how it works I would have to say that if you take your time with it, it seems to restimulate paths in your nervous system that fired at one time in your life. I'd like to find more books structured like this perhaps by different authors.

5.0 out of 5 stars I used this book to help a friend, February 3, 2001
This review is from: Self Analysis (Mass Market Paperback)
This book delves into the conflict between the exuberance of youth and the cautiousness that comes with hard-won wisdom. Why does it happen that as one ages and learns, one becomes less enthusiastic about life? Is there a way to retain one's wisdom, but regain that youthful enthusiasm?

Well, there is, and this book gives the exact processes to do just that.

These processes are truly remarkable, and very simple to use. Just about anyone could be helped with these processes, but I think they are especially good for someone who has suffered some kind of trauma - the loss of a loved one, for example.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who is interested in what makes us go "tick" and who wants to help others.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth recommending..., November 9, 2001
This review is from: Self Analysis (Mass Market Paperback)
This is one book I've recommended to many people, particularly those who are suffering from loss of some sort.

These techniques can be used on oneself, and the book gives a basic, simple explanation for how and why the process works as it does. Anyone who feels a bit "run down" by life, or who has suffered losses, can be assisted by this method.

I wish I had known this technique when I was a rape crisis counselor - it would have helped many women I knew enormously!

The purpose of these processes are to pull a person back into the here and now. After the death of a loved one, failed relationships, serious injuries, etc., one can become "stuck in the incident" - and have a gloomy outlook thereafter. These processes gently bring a person's attention back under their own control - and out of the past incidents that have been haunting them.

One can use these processes on himself, or on another. They are even good to use on children, and not necessarily just for people who have experienced trauma. They can improve a person's memory, and just brighten one's outlook in general.

Even my 9 year old daughter is able to use these processes on her younger siblings and her friends. My kids consider Self Analysis to be "fun" and it is!

You can just try it out and see how you like it. I think it's great!
