Chump Change
Private investigator Leo Waterman thought he had seen it all, until he finds himself in killer's torture chamber. Find out what happens in Chump Change.

Book Description

Over fifty million people died when the Spanish Flu swept the globe in 1918. The virus attacked the young and healthy, dealing a crippling blow to a world still reeling from the horrors of the First World War. It wormed its way into communities large and small, killing mercilessly, before abruptly vanishing without a trace in the summer of 1920.

That was then.

In 2005, scientists completed sequencing the genetic code of the Spanish Flu. The following year, they infected monkeys with a reanimated strain of the very same virus.

The monkeys exhibited classic symptoms of the 1918 Spanish Flu.

Then they died.

This is now.

In the course of a routine transfer between government facilities, a team of ruthless mercenaries intercepts a supply of a highly engineered Spanish Flu virus.

Gage Mercer, the future son in law of a deranged billionaire, finds himself drawn into a plot to trigger the extinction of the human race through a deliberate release of the virus.

This could be the future.

4.0 out of 5 stars ENGROSSING THRILLER July 25, 2010
SELF ARREST, William Esmont's first novel, is a well crafted story that will take you on an exhilarating, nail-biting, roller coaster ride into the believable potential for bio-terrorism. You will move through each chapter effortlessly, anxiously anticipating what you suspect and know will raise the hairs on the back of your neck. Psychological angst, murder, and the sheer terror of biological warfare are cleverly knitted together to produce a must-read thriller. Excellent character development jumps at you as you ride the emotional highs and lows of Gage and his companions!

3.0 out of 5 stars Worst Ending Ever August 15, 2010
By Claudia
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed this book, right up until the last page. I was torn between leaving a five star review because the book was a good one, or a one star review because it did, quite literally, have the worst ending I've ever encountered in more than 50 years of reading.

I don't know if a sequel is planned; regardless, this type of ending was perceived by me as a rebuke for having bothered to read the novel. It wasn't even a reasonable cliff-hanger, which can be aggravating in itself.

I can't say much more without giving too much away. I will say the book was interesting, scientifically accurate, well written, and well edited for the most part.

I can also say that I won't read another novel by this author unless it is stated up front that there will be a sequel or stated that the novel, unlike this one, will have some resolution at the end.

4.0 out of 5 stars Non-stop action July 17, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a good first book from a new author. It immediately gets into the action and the roller coaster does not stop from there. The ending seemed a little rushed and left me wanting to read more. The character Marta has potential and I look forward to reading more about her exploits in the future.
