Self-Completion: Keys to the Meaningful LIfe, May 10, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Self-Completion: Keys to the Meaningful Life (Consciousness Classics) (Paperback)
In 70's I had the book Master Game by the same author. I found it again in the 90`s. This book by the same author (DeRopp) is the essence of his thinking & teaching in older age. It covers Gurdjieff, Ouspensky, Sufi teachins,Zen sittings in a very easy to understand way. It also gives a clear explanation of what went wrong with the development of the modern Man. There are hundreds of books for the "seekers". If you are serious about the "WORK" and Fourth Way, do yourself a favor: Read this book a couple of times.

A Wonderful Tour de Force, February 12, 2003

Not only for so-called Gurdjieff-Work people, but for anybody honestly "trying" to work on themselves. This book is what Gurdjieff would call "Castor Oil" to our Egos, if we make the effort to really read it. The "Mastergame" was quite nice, and
probably a revelation it its days, but "Self-Completion" is a Masterpiece, quite rare in this time of narrowness. De Ropp is stirring muddy waters and shows, how to bring clarity into the mud. A very rare kind of book. Very very valuable!!!

The title means what it says, August 4, 2011
This review is from: Self-Completion: Keys to the Meaningful Life (Consciousness Classics) (Paperback)
Robert de Ropp describes in this book most everything spiritual practitioners in Western cultures should know. I am just amazed that his expositions have not been acknowledged by further printings of his books, particularly this one, which could serve as a guide and reminder to one's spiritual endeavours for the rest of one's life, whether on one's own, or ultimately in the company of others under the guidance of a spiritually enlightened Teacher in the Oral Tradition. Very, very few individuals can make it on their own, but this book can help one choose one's company and Teacher carefully, for `tis better to be one's own company than squander one's fine energy in the company of the spiritually poor or the false messiah.
This book is basically divided into 3 parts:
- "God, Man, Cosmos", which describes our current and potential development in the evolution of the Universe.
- "The Fantasy Work", which are the traps and impediments to our spiritual growth; these are traps and impediments which we as human beings have allowed ourselves by our ability to fantasize.
- "The Real Work", which is what we have to do to evolve and realise our potential on a far greater level of awareness than we are now. It shows how one may go forward on this discovery of true reality, which is potentially in most all of us, especially for those who have the courage and devotion to do so. It explains the difference between one's essence and one's persona, and gives excellent real-life examples of the workings of the Triads.
It is such a great pity the price of this book is increasing for used books to levels of that for collectors' items. I exhort readers of this review to go to the Gateways site (gatewaysbooksandtapes), click on the site's link for the complete list of current gateways books, click again on the image link for the title of this book, and put your name on the waiting list. Demand for the book will bring it back more into circulation again. It is currently advertised by Gateways at $20, which is very reasonable for what it has to offer. Amazon could probably get it at bulk wholesale discount for reselling.
If there is such a thing as reincarnation, I truly hope the divine source of this author's being returns him again to this world to continue his guidance of sentient beings.
