Gets You Thinking,
This review is from: Self-Discipline in 10 Days: How to Go from Thinking to Doing (Paperback)
I enjoyed this book a lot. It is organized well and has lots of "icons" that make the reading interesting. I think it works so well because it is almost set up like a workbook and has you do a lot of writing exercises that attempt to get at the root cause of things.
It also emphasizes positive self-talk and discusses some common barriers to self-discipline. All-in-all, its well worth a good look. Also found The Sixty-Second Motivator helpful too.

This unassuming book features big bold type, tacky clip-art, very brief chapters, and an expensive price. I knew the reviews were very positive but I did not have high expectations.
Was I in for a shocker. This book will change your life if you read it and apply it. Have you ever said to yourself that "I should be working on this report" but two hours later find yourself in front of the TV watching reruns? Or how about trying to stick to a healthy diet, but before you know it you are chowing down on a Big Mac and Super-sized fries? The central concept of this book is that a PART of you does not want self-discipline. This part of you is very clever at putting up mental blocks and continually trying to throw you of course. The book lists every conceivable strategy your undisciplined self will use against you, and what you can do to successfully counter each one. I was able to get results from this book almost immediately, and once the program was completed I noticed that I had managed to complete otherwise potentially difficult tasks that might sit on my list for weeks, or even months. I believe that most things people avoid doing are actually not as bad as we think, but all the avoidance makes them big and ugly when in truth it's not really that bad. I would recommend this book as the foundation of a self-development plan. Read it, understand it, and then apply it daily before moving on to something else. Once you can get yourself to do what you know you should do, I believe that you will be moving in a great direction.

This review is from: Self-Discipline in 10 Days: How to Go from Thinking to Doing (Paperback)
I had to wait awhile to get this book, but it was worth both the wait and the cost. My biggest problem is procrastination, which exacerbates my weight and clutter problems. Stress and depression have been a real deterrant to reaching goals. This is the best book I've come across in getting to the bottom of my self-discipline lacks. I have completed the first 3 days so far but have gained so much in self-understanding, it is truly amazing. Be sure to do the exercises, they don't take long at all, and are really worth your time. I've read so many books on organizing and getting things done in a timely fashion. All of them had good ideas, but none of them got to the root of why I wasn't effectively reaching goals. I also like to collect inspirational and motivational quotes. The quotes and books all seemed to temporarily be the magic bullet to end my problems. None of them really made me think about why I had developed the clutter and weight and procrastination problems though. This is a book worth getting and working through!

The book is a REALLY short read. The exercises are quick and simple and they just work... Yes, the book is simplistic and the concepts deceptively obvious. I think that is the beauty of it.
Like some of the other reviewers, I have purchased other books about getting past procrastination. What happened to those books? They are on my shelf because I either put off reading them all together or got bored and did not finish reading them. I was highly skeptical about purchasing this book and I still don't think that the best results were within the "10 days" promised by the title. WHO CARES? You will likely see a change in your thinking and more productivity before you even finish reading the book! The more you apply the concepts, the better your results become. Buy the book. It is worth the price. You simply have to keep an open mind, read the book, and actually do the exercises. The time and effort invested is amazingly small for the level of benefits derived. Now, the next step is yours...

Powerful Information,

This review is from: Self-Discipline in 10 Days: How to Go from Thinking to Doing (Paperback)
After reading this book I felt empowered. It gives you the tools to overcome the mental roadblocks to self-discipline.
While this book may seem dumbed-down and simplistic (and this may bother you if you take yourself too seriously) it was actually clear and pithy. Many of the books in this genre have too many words that dilute the meat of the teaching. Not this one. It is a lean and spare manual that you will devour quickly and go back to often. Dr. Bryant is right-on when he says that you don't "have" self-discipline, you "use" self-discipline. It is a learnable skill, and he is an effective teacher.

Wow, I love this book.,

This book did what all the others didn't. It helped me improve my self-discipline the first day I opened it. It keeps things simple, not a lot of academic theories, double-talk, or psychobabble. The author obviously knows his stuff. More important, he knows how to get his information across--painlessly. This book is a quick, easy read. It even, believe it or not, contains humor. You can see from all of the other reviews that this book really delivers. I don't usually write reviews but this book deserves it. Kudos to the author. I can safely say that if you try this book, you won't be disappointed. In fact, you'll probably say it's the best money you ever spent. Tip: If your friends see your copy, they'll ask to "borrow" it. Don't let 'em. You'll never see it again. Been there. Done that. Conclusion: Buy this book, follow its directions, and watch yourself do things you've only dreamed about.

This is a wonderful book, easy read, and really opened my eyes to the inner voice that causes people to delay, hesitate, have self doubt, and sabotage themselves.
Do not be frightened away by the price, this book is one of the best self help books I have ever read because you can get immediate benefit from it. Stop dreaming and start doing, if you hesitate or are not taking action on your dream or goals, if you have difficulty losing weight or exercising, or simply are not doing the things that you know you should be doing, then get this book. You will be glad you did. It has helped me with weight loss, getting things done around the house and at work, and kept me focused on my exercise and health goals. I would like to personally than Ted Bryant for this brilliant book!

This book is best implemented when used as a workbook. Those of you that are willing to do a great deal of writing will get the most benefit from this book. The exercises are easy to follow and are designed to root out the cause of whatever is holding you back. This book will help you to help yourself.

Doesn't present a system,
This review is from: Self-Discipline in 10 Days: How to Go from Thinking to Doing (Paperback)
It's a very interesting book and a pleasure to read. It's easy written.
It maybe doesn't present lots of new information but it helps to look on your existing knowledge of self-discipline more deeply and from a different perspective. It gives plenty of tools which are simple and well known (self-talk, affirmations, visualization) which are probably usually overlooked due to their simplicity. On a bad note, the book doesn't provide a complete system on using the tools, it is left out for a reader to customize, to experiment when to use which tools.

The best self-help book,
By Deb Allen "Drewpartyof4" (Denver,CO) - See all my reviews

This book quite literally has changed my life, or should I say helped me make the changes needed to change my life. Its simplistic and humorous format make reading easy and enjoyable. The advice inside is spot on and much easier to absorb than other similiar types of books. No long journey's to the past, just simple understanding of the kind of person you are and what you can do to improve. I had so many light bulb moments reading this book that I could have lit up a whole city!
Many thanks to the wonderful author. |
