5.0 out of 5 stars best little self-esteem book in self-help
I really enjoyed the straightforward simplicity of this little book. I also gained many practical tips for reinforcing my own esteem. I recommend it to anyone who has ever had a self-critical thought.

2.0 out of 5 stars Much Ado About Nothing
This is a flimsy, insignificant book (PUBLISHED BOOK??? This is a college, or high school, term paper) that offers no practical advice on finding your inner (wounded) child, which is the cause of low self esteem.
Don't waste your money.

4.0 out of 5 stars self esteem exercises are positive soul searching, March 19, 2006
This review is from: The Self-Esteem Companion: Simple Exercises to Help You Challenge Your Inner Critic and Celebrate Your Personal Strengths (Paperback)
As a psychologist I am always looking for short exercises to deliver an immediate response so people who are skeptical can see results. This is one of those positive, short chaptered resources that people will immediately connect with. This is also written by people from New Harbinger Press and this is also a relable source all around. Let the healing start somewhere!!

Perfect summarised complimentary book to the self esteem book by McKay & Fanning. It complements the self-esteem book and provides strategies that you can give to clients to use.

This review is from: The Self-Esteem Companion: Simple Exercises to Help You Challenge Your Inner Critic and Celebrate Your Personal Strengths (Paperback)
This is a helpful book, especially when working with clients that don't want to read through pages and pages of information. The exercises are helpful and easy to explain. It is focused on self-esteem and dealing with the "inner critic."

As a counselor, I'm always looking for new books and ideas to engage clients... this book has some wonderful exercises and the comentary is quite enlightening as well. I bought one for myself and then bought one for my adult daughter. I love the 'five finger exercise!'

Of all our degraders, our self-critics are the most adept. Gathering a sense of self-worth in the midst of our rodent doubts requires resolve and inner resources not easy to recoup. Matthew McKay, a brief therapy specialist and his cohorts, present fifty simple exercises that enable readers to inventory themselves and master self-compassion.
