About the Author

Dr. Ingrid Schweiger is known internationally for her work with families. The American Association For Marriage and Family Therapy recognized Dr. Schweiger for her innovative family education programs used in communities throughout the world. Dr. Schweiger has served on the faculties of the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA and The New School for Social Research in New York City. She co-authored Teacher Stress and Burnout, published by the National Education Association, and produced the award-winning documentary Teen Suicide. Dr. Schweiger's media experience includes hosting a live call-in radio show as well as frequent appearances on the NBC News in Massachusetts. Dr. Schweiger has written a user-friendly "how to" book that is helpful to all parents in raising happy and confident children. I particularly enjoyed her reiteration of key points at the end of each chapter and a place for readers to make their own notes. As an educator, I will be adding her book to the professional library at my school.

Self-Esteem For A Lifetime is filled with great ideas and suggestions on raising children with high self esteem. I also encourage everyone to take the time to fill out the work sheets in the book. The work sheets help personalize the suggestions and tips for your own family and children. The book is a quick read without jargon that is too technical. If you want to raise children who hold their heads up high, this book can provide a great foundation plan.

I found Ingrid Schweiger's book, "Self Esteem for a Lifetime", to be a wonderful resource as both a mother of three teenaged daughters, and an artist. Her insights on the happiness of the marriage affecting children's self esteem are profound, as well as her research into the Arts affecting self esteem. Dr. Schweiger writes with the wisdom and experience of being a mother, simply and profoundly, and the education and background of a seasoned profesional. I was never tripped up by psycho babble. Her book sits on my nightstand, as I often refer to it at the end of a long day to cope with the challenges of raising children.
