5.0 out of 5 stars Practical, down to earth advice for parents, December 7, 2008
This review is from: Self-Esteem For A Lifetime: Raising A Successful Child From The Inside Out (Paperback)
Dr. Schweiger has written a user-friendly "how to" book that is helpful to all parents in raising happy and confident children. I particularly enjoyed her reiteration of key points at the end of each chapter and a place for readers to make their own notes. As an educator, I will be adding her book to the professional library at my school.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read!, November 6, 2008
This review is from: Self-Esteem For A Lifetime: Raising A Successful Child From The Inside Out (Paperback)
Self-Esteem For A Lifetime is filled with great ideas and suggestions on raising children with high self esteem. I also encourage everyone to take the time to fill out the work sheets in the book. The work sheets help personalize the suggestions and tips for your own family and children. The book is a quick read without jargon that is too technical. If you want to raise children who hold their heads up high, this book can provide a great foundation plan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this book!, October 31, 2008
This review is from: Self-Esteem For A Lifetime: Raising A Successful Child From The Inside Out (Paperback)
I found Ingrid Schweiger's book, "Self Esteem for a Lifetime", to be a wonderful resource as both a mother of three teenaged daughters, and an artist. Her insights on the happiness of the marriage affecting children's self esteem are profound, as well as her research into the Arts affecting self esteem. Dr. Schweiger writes with the wisdom and experience of being a mother, simply and profoundly, and the education and background of a seasoned profesional. I was never tripped up by psycho babble. Her book sits on my nightstand, as I often refer to it at the end of a long day to cope with the challenges of raising children.

As a counselor and parent educator, I will make Self-Esteem for a Lifetime required reading for the parents in my classes. Schweiger's hands-on approach, succinct reminders, and carefully crafted journal questions make this a book that will be dog-eared from being referred to time after time. Thank you Dr. Schweiger for creating a user-friendly guide for instilling self-esteem in children (and adults) of all ages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Self-Esteem For A Lifetime will prove to be a quick reference and well-used resource for families, March 30, 2010
This review is from: Self-Esteem For A Lifetime: Raising A Successful Child From The Inside Out (Paperback)
The question for most adults isn't whether or not they want the children in their lives to be healthy, successful and confident individuals. The true question is: How do you help them?

Fortunately, that is where Dr. Ingrid Schweiger, with her thirty years of experience as a psychotherapist, comes in to provide answers. It is also what makes Self-Esteem For A Lifetime such an invaluable resource for parents and educators.

In her book, Dr. Ingrid offers practical, easy-to-understand guidance for building the self-esteem of a child. By drawing on her own experiences as a mother and psychotherapist, as well as real families and individuals who she has worked with in her private practice and community programs, she provides an interesting and thorough guide book. The book broaches important subjects like high and low self-esteem messages children receive, true communication and listening skills, tips for dealing with anger and stress and much more. Across the pages of Self-Esteem For A Lifetime, Dr. Schweiger reiterates a simple, yet very important, message to parents - "There are no perfect parents!"

Self-esteem and parenting are two topics that need all the attention they can get. Here, in one book, Dr. Schweiger gives advice and guidance about how to parent in a way that enhances the self-esteem of your child. As a side benefit, the parents' self-esteem rises, too.
The book has interesting anecdotes and good prompts to help parents reflect upon and assess their parenting ways. This is a worthwhile book, and all parents will benefit from reading it, not just new parents.
