I didn't expect to like this book as much as I did. Reading the publishers' notes, I thought it would be one of those books that pooh-poohed the whole Reiki teaching process, from symbols to the attunements.

Not so! What this book does do, however, is to suggest that by reading it, the attunements are passed on to the reader. Given the fact that it's always been possible (and scientifically proven to be possible) to "send" healings, attunements, and even shaktipat over great distances, this claim should not seem all that outlandish. However, as a Reiki Master myself, I might be the wrong person to judge whether or not this took place with me. (It would be interesting to read a report from someone who's not been initiated beforehand.) I, personally, didn't feel all that much from the book. Then again, I've been attuned for a number of years, and didn't really need another one.

Nevertheless, this book is one of the very best manuals I have ever seen. It tells the student almost everything needed to be a good practitioner and teacher.

Emerson has a good way with words. It's almost as though she's in the room with the reader, speaking as one good friend to another in the kind of language good friends use. No obscure techno-metaphys babble here: everything is understandable, yet eloquently written.

I recommend this book, but with a caveat. If the reader is not yet attuned, and still feels nothing after reading the book, please do see a qualified Reiki teacher. (Many do teach for free, or for very reasonable fees.) But as a manual, you just can't beat it!

Having read a couple of books on Reiki, I was a little frustrated about the clandestine approach to passing on what is supposedly guniversal healingh. And given one is led to believe that Reiki attunements can only be successfully passed on person to person, I was a bit dubious about the claims of Barbara Emerson to be able to offer these via her book and/or videos. But with an open heart and mind I did the first attunement from the instructions in her book - and I was very impressed with the results. I do healing similar to Reiki, and found after the attunement that my hands were much more sensitive to the energy of another person and could give healing with stronger energy than before. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in starting Reiki or other forms of healing using the hands. Barbara Emerson, thank you for your generosity of healing spirit.

After reveiwing other comments from a Reiki Master about this book, It was obvious that she either misunderstood the message in the book or was trying to down grade the book for her own benifit. There is no mention in the book about the book passing the attunements to buyers of the book. The attunements are given through a video tape process. I have read the book and taken the video attunements associated with this book and they are powerful. I would hope other Reiki masters do not feel threatened and down grade this book. Reiki Masters charge lots of money to teach others the healing art of reiki. It seems that Barbara Emerson has now made Reiki available to all people rich and poor alike. The biggest reason for the book appears to be so Reiki can be shared by all at a reasonable price. If you fall pray to sour grapes from other Reiki Masters your cost to become a reiki master will be very high and you will get no help with sharing your new knowledge with others. i really enjoyed this book a lot. it feels like barbara is discussing reiki with me personally. the book is down to earth, very informative. i also have two of the videos barbara offers, but so far i've only played one. it was great, i could feel the energy flow. if it were not for this book, i doubt that i'd have searched deeper into this healing method. now i want to go as far as i can in this field. thanks to barbara.

Finally a book that gives you more than information about Reiki. With the attunement videos I have been able to become a Reiki Master and start teaching Reiki. All of the other books I have read are very interesting, but send you to a Master for attunements. I live in a small town and there are no Reiki Masters available. This is a Godsend for me. Also, I do not think a person should be able to write a review if they have not read the book or tried the attunements!!!

I have been studying Reiki for several years, but have been unable to afford the outlandish prices many Reiki Masters charge for attunement. I received the attunements from this book. I felt them as I read the words of each attunement, and have felt a significant boost in energy with each attunement. I now use Reiki to heal myself and my family. Reiki is a universal energy that is available to everyone, and I think it is only human ego that supports the idea that one must have a guru or master in our presence to learn this powerful healing system.

This book is the most clearly written, uncluttered sharing of Reiki that I have found. Beliefs added to the simple, powerful Reiki experience serve to confuse readers. Barb adds fewer beliefs and her sharing is distilled from years of practical experience. How can one learn to play music without playing music? Same with Reiki--get attuned and start doing it!

Barb includes drawings of the symbols. Once one is attuned to them, the symbols are each a sort of switch in spirit that allows one to flow energy effortlessly. Barb explains from beginner through Reiki Master Trainer and includes step-by-step attunement instructions. An attunement is the energetic sharing of a gift. In the case of Reiki, one's energy body is opened and balanced so that non-discordant healing energy flows easily. The energy can be shared with self and others and attunements don't wear out. What a deal!

My Reiki I and II attunements were shared in person, an option I always recommend as first choice. However, my Reiki III/Master attunement was shared across time and distance by Barb and our spirit guides. I felt them attuning me as I watched the video and my energy flow opened and strengthened immediately. Mikao Usui was attuned by our spirit family as a gift to renew simple human energetic healing and spirit can gift any of us regardless of time or distance. Only personal beliefs can limit such a gift from spirit. As spirits ourselves, we can also gift each other across time and distance.

In addition to providing manuals written from my experience, I strongly recommend this book to all my Reiki students. Thanks Barb! I'm grateful that are my Reiki III RMT (Reiki Master Trainer). :-)

I HAVE read the book and received all three attunements and I can't tell you how wonderful they were. The energy and love radiates out of Barbara during the videos. I would highly recommend the book and videos to anyone who wants to become a practitioner.

..about reiki. My husband and I are both finding it well-written and easy to follow. It is not meant to be a fully comprehensive course on "all things reiki" but is an excellent introduction and practical application manual. Kudos and good karma to the author, who demystifies a healing technique easily accessible to all.

I liked that it offers the option of a "Home Attunement." It was the first of its kind that I've seen to offer video courses along with its book... although, the video is not as accessible- you can't really by it in stores and I'm not sure if it comes in DVD format, as others I've come across.

I DEFINETLY recomend this book to those who have time to order and watch the vids. I know it can bennefit many.
