HEAL THROUGH LAUGHTER-Self Helpless is just the right dose!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Self-Helpless: The Greatest Self-Help Books You'll Never Read (Paperback)
A hilarious and refreshing antidote to the self-help world! As a clinical social worker dedicated to Mind/Body theory and practice, I am committed to helping my clients use humor and laughter as an effective coping mechanism for depression and stress. This book is filled with wildly outrageous parodies (e.g. When Bad Things Happen to Good HUMOR people, The CON Artist's Way) evoking just the right dose of healing. It is now my choice of gifts to everyone! Laugh and heal yourself!

Humor IS the best medicine!,
This review is from: Self-Helpless: The Greatest Self-Help Books You'll Never Read (Paperback)
I laughed till I cried. For those out there who think that self-help books can solve all your problems, this may not be for you. But those of us who think this whole self-help thing has gone too far, will be highly amused by the authors' creative parody of the most popular books in this area. The authors create book blurbs around their made-up titles. The text is evenly funny throughout. Even if this was created one or two nights in a bar over some drinks, it's a hysterical romp. Some zany book titles include: I'm OJ, Your OJ, Embraced by the Light FM, and a spoof on all those helpful travel guides -- Let's Go Hell. It makes for some great bathroom reading, or might be perfect as a gag gift for friends who may be hapless victims of this self-help syndrome. My advice, quit reading books about how sick you are and how you need to change, and start reading more books such as this and develop a sense of humor. Laughter IS the best medicine.

Better than Monty Python?,

This review is from: Self-Helpless: The Greatest Self-Help Books You'll Never Read (Paperback)
OK, I don't mean to be provocative, but I really did think Python's deliciously sick brand of humor had kind of died (like Graham Chapman). I was wrong. This book is sick, funny, hilarious, sick, knee slapping. I got it as a gift and plan to send copies to every friend I've ever had. READ THIS BOOK. It's guaranteed to make you laugh out loud!

Razor-Sharp Wit!,
By Joe Peterson (Wallingford, CT) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Self-Helpless: The Greatest Self-Help Books You'll Never Read (Paperback)
I love so much the being of this book! It's the only thing I have in my bathroom (besides toilet paper). You can turn to any page and find some hysterical line and clever take. The self-help section keeps growing, and Self-Helpless is the antidote!

How Corny,
By A Customer
This review is from: Self-Helpless: The Greatest Self-Help Books You'll Never Read (Paperback)
Wow- there are alot of silly self-help books out there and here's our spoofs thereon. That's the premise of this book. Brilliant, right? It probably took, what, a couple nights over drinks to put this together? One can imagine Bines et al. sitting around an East Village bar, yukking it up as they come up with faux titles like "I'm O.J., You're O.J." Had this book come out, oh, a decade ago, it might have scored points for being timely. But in 1999?

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Self-Helpless: The Greatest Self-Help Books You'll Never Read (Paperback)
This book had me laughing out loud in the store, which is something I almost never do. The parodies are really funny, and every page is jam-packed with all these clever jokes. My favorite page is "Do What You Love and The Money Will Follow: The Complete Guide To Sperm Bank Donation." Totally sick! If you are tired of self-help, you should read this book.

I really enjoyed Self-Helpless - even when it harpooned books I'd read and liked! The parodies are very clever, and the illustrations are great. I'd recommend it to anyone needing a good laugh.

Satire is so rich you can't wait to share it with friends,
By A Customer
This review is from: Self-Helpless: The Greatest Self-Help Books You'll Never Read (Paperback)
This book combines rich satire with astonishingly funny and penetrating writing. Every time you turn a page, you want to call someone to share the enjoyment with. Readers will be quoting things from this book for a long time -- there's something for almost every context.

My son gave me this book, and I came to Amazon.com to give it to my bridge partner. She reads all those self-help books, and is spouting off new advice to me every week. Self-Helpless will put her in her place, that old crow. It makes me laugh just thinking about it.
