Blanchard, author of the bestselling One Minute Manager, has a made a career out of writing the business equivalent of Jonathan Livingston Seagull. The self-appointed "Chief Spiritual Officer" of Ken Blanchard Companies, he portrays a business world in which magic tricks and mentors encountered in bohemian cafes lead troubled employees to promotions and advertising awards. Blanchard's point here is that managers are too busy and distracted to effectively mentor employees and that workers need to assume responsibility for their own failures and successes-seeking the advice of superiors only when they absolutely need to. This is a terrific, and terrifically wise little book. The message of having a "leadership" perspective--no matter what your title in your organization--is simply liberating. Being able to use the Situational Leadership II model to influence up is inspirational. So often we wait around for someone or something else to make it all more! My favorite is Points of Power. I never knew I had so much influence over my success and happiness. Wonderful!

This sassy little parable turns leadership upside down. Leading yourself? Fantastic idea! Why would I wait for someone else to tell me what to do and how to do it, never mind why I oughta do it? This book showed me how to set meaningful goals, what I need to do at each step of the way, and how to keep going when the going gets tough. And not just on the job. My 15-year granddaughter went through a student version of the self leadership workshop and used the concepts to make the tennis team at school. Nice of the management gurus to share their precious little secrets with us.

I found this book to contain some key principles for individual success in all phases of life. It will help me become a better self leader by teaching me how to seek out the direction and support I need to be successful. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in being more successful in all areas of their life.

The idea behind increasing effectiveness is a good one. There were times that I was able to incorporate the ideas into the situations here in an optical office. There were more times however, that the events just do not unfold as you would hope. It is as this point that the book's offered guidelines become faint and you may find yourself deeply in, and feel like you are starting over.

Worked in conjunction with the other Minute Manager books your business self is improved. The earlier books were more helpful than this addition to the series on their own. This edition just does not stand up by itself.

I selected a variety of management books to browse at a local bookstore. This was the second book I picked up from the stack and I didn't get to any of the others. I couldn't put it down. Because it was such a quick and easy read, I finished it in the store!

When I finished I felt better about myself, my position at my newly formed software company, and how to push through to complete my large goal list. I will definitely be adding this book to my library. My friends and coworkers will be receiving copies as well.

This is a delightful book with a very clear, easy to follow message to help anyone become a self leader. Blanchard identifies the different types of power that each person can possess and shows how to use it to become an effective leader, regardless of your position within the company. Using the situational self leadership model, the story very clearly illustrates how to get away from being a victim and blaming others to becoming a leader and accepting responsibility.

This book is a very easy read with useful information for everyone.

One of the main problems with most organizations is the amount of victimization throughout; blaming everything and everybody for ones problems. In delightful story form, this book shows how one can go from being a victim to self leader. The book gets at the very foundational factors that allow us to learn and grow and shows how we can use our power to lead ourselves and others. It is a must-read for everyone.

Everyone, no matter what your role, should read this book. If you are already successful, this book will help you to sustain your success. If you are striving, this book will help you attain your goals more efficiently and effectively. Besides that, it is a fun and entertaining read.

If you have any doubts at all about your career or where you're headed, this book will show you the path to dispelling those doubts.
