Editorial Reviews

Product Description
While NYC's The Slackers have been influenced and even personally taught by Jamaican ska/reggae originators like the Skatalites and the Upsetters, the band sees its music through an American lens. This group is equally appreciative of old blues, 60s soul, rock, and R&B as it is of reggae, rocksteady, dub, and ska. It s as if the Rolling Stones or the Yardbirds had grown up on Bob Marley as well as Muddy Waters. The Slackers are now set to release their 7th studio full length, Self Medication 12 brilliant songs that find the band continuing to transcend the confines of genre. From the eerie ring of the title track to the bluesy stomp of Don t You Want A Man, this album
finds the band experimenting with new sounds, as well as delivering their signature reggae and ska riffs. Saxophonist Dave Hillyard commented ''Self Medication is designed to be
listened to in a certain order. It s an old fashioned way of doing things, but it s meant to keep and sustain a certain atmosphere for the 50 odd minutes it runs.'' After a long run of successful albums on Tim Armstrong's Hellcat/Epitaph label, Self
Medication marks the bands first LP on newly formed Indication Records, which is run by their old friends and ex-label mates The Pietasters. The Slackers will be self medicating throughout 2008 on the road, with dates booked in the US, Canada, Europe, Japan, and UK to support the record.

5.0 out of 5 stars Make sure you buy this album today!, May 1, 2008
I am a big fan of The Slackers and this album totally caught me by surprise. It's as good as, if not better, than Wasted Days and Peculiar! I love the WHOLE ALBUM the first time I heard it. In fact I'm so impressed with this album I just had to take the time to write a review and tell everyone to buy this album immediately! Slackers, please come back to Michigan!!!

After the travesty that was Peculiar, you have redeemed yourself completely and then some. Self Medication might be the best slackers album yet and that would be saying a lot about the slackers and about music. Thanks very much for the awesome awesome awesome album!!!!!!
