5.0 out of 5 stars WHAT HIP HOP IS SUPPOSED TO BE
SELF SCIENTIFIC'S ALBUM "THE SELF SCIENCE" IS A GREAT HIP HOP CLASSIC. GIVES YOU KNOWLEDGE ON EVERY TRACK AND PROUDUCTION IS ILL WITHOUT WHACK LOOPS LIKE ROCCAFELLA RUFF RIDER CRAP. CHACE INFINITE KICKS ILL VERSES FROM HIS MENTAL AND MAKES SENSE WITH IT. DJ KHALIL PRODUCERS HIS OWN ALBUM AND DOES A GREAT JOB. THIS ALBUM IS HARD TO FIND IN A REGULAR RECORD...

2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing to get excited about
I don't know what is going on with all of the other people that reviewed this and acted like it is the best thing since soap on a roap. I am a big underground hip hop fan. Some of my favorites are Del, Dialated Peoples, Kool Keith, J5, PB Wolf, Jeru the Damaja, and Cut Chemist. All of those artists are good becuase they like to have fun and they try different things to...

THIS ALBUM IS HARD TO FIND IN A REGULAR RECORD SHOP YOU NEED TO FIND A STORE THAT CARRIES UNDERGROUND REAL HIPHOP OR ORDER IT FROM THE NET. SOME OF MY FAVORITE JOINTS ON THE ALBUM ARE "BEST PART", "THE LONG RUN", "THREE KINGS", "THE SELF SCIENCE", "LOVE ALLAH", "THE RETURN", BUT THE WHOLE ALBUM IS TIGHT. PICK THIS ALBUM UP IF YOU LIKE REAL HIP HOP WITH A MESSAGE FOR YOUR MENTAL. IF YOU ARE SIMPLE MINDED STICK WITH ROCCAFELLA RUFF RIDER AND CASH MONEY CRAP. THIS IS NOT FOR YOU. PEACE TO THE GODS AND EARTHS ONE LOVE

5.0 out of 5 stars A glimmer of hope, February 27, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Self-Science (Audio CD)
This album comes at a time when I thought hip hop had both feet in the grave. But leave it to Self Scientific to lead the way to the music's much needed resurrection. When DJ Khalil's refreshingly original beats get linked with Chace Infinite's deep and insightful lyrics (did I mention his delivery?), this album is nothing short of a return to the essence of hip hop. Definitely a must have for true heads.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent in every respect, September 9, 2001

There has been a big wane in the number of strong albums out lately. For ANYONE even remotely into hip hop, this is a DEFINITE must have purchase. It's really one of the tightest debut albums I've ever heard. It has something for everybody, and even friends of mine who don't like hip hop enjoy it as well. It's not THE last word in hip hop, and he's not expanding any hip hop boundaries, but I'd have to say that this album excels in every way.

Not only is rhyme delivery done with enthusiasm and strength, the beats are all well-matched - VARIED beats that is. There are probably no more than 2 songs if any that you might dislike on this album. By today's standards, that's an album handed down by the gods!

Furthermore, the rhymes ARE matched well with the beats. You can actually tell that they created these tracks with unique intentions in mind. Not just another freestyle that they pop on an instrumental that happens to sound good together. The content on the albums is edgy, but not overdone to diminish his street credibility in any way.

Most of the songs not only sound different, but are different. Songs totally range in subject and delivery, while still maintaining a strong respectable street-intellectual image without looking like some wannabe mega-gangster or overly preachy "I learned my lesson" hood-rapper.

I don't really know where else to go with this album than other to say that you won't be dissappointed with this album at any price. GET IT.

5.0 out of 5 stars Self Scientific... a must for the underground heads, July 18, 2003
This review is from: Self-Science (Audio CD)
I was playing around on the internet one day listening for new underground cats I havent heard yet, next thing you know Im downloading Self Scientific ft. Krondon... Three Kings.. before the song even ended I wrote them down in the "to buy" list. Many times when you hear one hot track and you buy an album in hopes the rest is the same... you usually only get another 2 hot tracks at the most... but Self Scientific aint playin around... Some dedicated underground mc's right there, from LA no less, with the perfect ingredients to a tight underground sound, which is all over this cd.
If you are into cats like ... Jedi Mind Tricks, Planet Asia, Afu-Ra, and so on... chances are... this disc will sit nicely in your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Up there with the best of hip-hop, July 12, 2002

Many meaningful, intelligent hip-hop albums take a while to warm up to. I can truly say that I enjoyed EVERY track on this CD the first time I listened to the CD. I thought I was gambling when I ordered the CD off of amazon.com trusting only the reviews, now I'm sure that it was absolutely one of the best amazon purchases I've ever made (and i've made a lot.) I would compare self-scientific to artists like "jedi mind tricks," except Self scientific has upbeat production quality and more hooks to their sound - they're not angry as hell like jedi mind tricks and they aren't revolutionaries like Dead Prez but they sure as hell sound better than both hiphop groups with this album. I can't wait for more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real Brothers Do Real Things..., August 5, 2001
This review is from: Self-Science (Audio CD)
Self-Scientific is taking their rightful place next to Dilated and J5 as the next LA Underground team that will blowup nation-wide, NYC lookout! This album is perfection, it defines what Self-Scientifc is all about...Dope beats, tight rhymes and k-n-o-w-l-e-d-g-e. Don't get it twisted this ain't goody goody can-we-all-get-along rap. It's just real brothers doing real things! If you felt Talib Kweli's album as an instant classic this is right there with it minus the overproduced beats. Look it's very simple...If you front on this album, YOUR HIP-HOP PASS WILL BE REVOKED! Learn the Self-Science! SUCKAS!!

Chace Infinite and DJ Khalil have put out one of the phattest jointz this year. They have filled the void for those hungering for the "true hip-hop culture meal." For the Gods and Earths--this is a must have--a definite + lesson in itself. Self Scientific--I have been following you from the beginning--thanks, sun, for blessing us and keeping it real. Knowledge knowledge.

4.0 out of 5 stars self science is the perfect rap equation, March 18, 2004
This review is from: Self-Science (Audio CD)
This album from start to finish is fantastic!!! The production by DJ Khalil is the freshest, most original beats you'll hear around. His blend of subtle guitar loops, punctuated with crisp snares and kicks with the funkiest of bass-lines really set the tone for each track excellently. Chace's flow is not only intelligent but creative, uplifting, it makes you think and most importantly, considering most of the lack lustre albums out at the moment, really positive. If i have 1 fault its that Krondon is on 3 of the best tracks and doesnt really shine, nor add anything to them that Chace could'nt do BETTER by himself. The stand out cuts for me are, "covenant", "best part", "the long run", "we all need", "self science", "duality", "return" and the bonus hidden track "god-spawn" (even though it has Krondon on it). Trust me on this, if you dont have it, youre missing out. An absolute cracker!!!!!
