Superlative treatment on a neglected topic,

This review is from: Self-decoration in Mount Hagen (Art & Society) (Hardcover)
This is probably the first and best treatment on the visual representation of the tribes on Papua New Guinea.
Books on ethnography always tend to be dry academic studies. This book deals with several tribes living on Mt Hagen, and their basis and preparation for putting on their finery for an annual Sing-Sing festival. The excellent photos and illustrations complement the fine text. I bought this 2nd hand and it is a treasure. |
