5.0 out of 5 stars sXe fincore ROCKS!
i have to admit, i didn't like it the first time i heard it. and i still didn't like it the second time i heard it. as a matter of fact, i HATED IT and decided that the $5 i spent on it, (i got it used,) was way too much. but i gave it a third spin, just to be fair, and i LOVED it. i have never liked a cd so much. once it grows on you, you'll never take it out of...

2.0 out of 5 stars Noise.
I was actually excited about receiving this disk after I ordered it from Tooth & Nail based on their hyped description of this band I had previously never heard of. Once I popped it in, I was extremely disappointed. To me, this recording sounds like a mess...a second rate hardcore garage band that decided to throw something together and call it a CD. The vocals...

for those of you reading the comments below me, forget the things you have seen there. now, listen to me. this album is exactly what we need. check out all the bizzare time signatures in almost every song. i have a friend who went to college in CA specifically for drumming. he is exceptional. but, lo, even he couldn't figure out the time signatures in "the second beginning". he couldn't follow it. him! a school taught, excellent drummer...this means something people. this band is good. they experiment. they are not willing to go 4/4 at all times (for standard 4/4 hard core, czech out P.O.D, Project 86, KORN, ZAO, and various other photocopies of these aforementioned bands). i would be so bold to say that SELFMINDEAD are the Dave Brubeck's of hard core/punk. twisted guitars. demented time signatures. tortured screams. raw recording. enough fire to keep us all warm in the winter. so for the negative comments that you have read i say this: people fear change. they are comfy in their 4/4 overproduced CD's. SELFMINDEAD flys in the face of such convention and takes out a few teeth on the way.

4.0 out of 5 stars an acquired taste, February 19, 2000

Not the best I've heard from SolidState but deffinately one of my favorites! The guitars are real thick and chunky with grungy rock sounds to them. The drums are rather exceptional...very punkish. Vocals...I dont know how to describe them! Deffinately different...if your looking for 100% emotion...don't look here...But deffinately a good buy for fans of Blindside & System of a Down

4.0 out of 5 stars tight, May 11, 1999

its me again writing another review.tis is a pretty interesting album.i also expected a more hard core feel to this album.but its more like this:its harcore music, but heavy metal vocals.the music is tight, and i mean tight.its real hard, real fast, but also can slow down quit a bit.he doesnt scream that much(exept for the songs clean and slip)thee is only two reasns why i gave this album a 4 instead of a 5.the first being that they could have made some of there songs a little longer they have two songs that are just over a minute.and and several just over two minutes.but is not near as short as the songs on that ridiculouse n.i.v. album.i would recomend this album only if your into this breed of hardcore.to me THIS ALBUM ROCKS!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent style, but it needs to grow on you..., December 30, 1998

When i first heard this albumn, i was very suprised. I expected a more regular hardcore flavor, but i got this interesting mix of tight varied vocals and strong guitar riffs. At first i was underwhelmed, but it quickly grew on me until i just couldn't stop listening. I highly recommend it to anyone who would listen to bands like Blindside and Korn. Great stuff.

The vocals reminded me of FRODUS, whom I very much like, but they were lost into a blizzard of noise behind the jumbled guitars. I tried listening to the disk over and over, hoping it would grow on me, but this one didn't and couldn't and won't.

Dodging the brutality, I did find a couple of their songs enjoyable. AND...I did take a quick listen to their newest album and it has promise. I liked what I heard, but haven't fully explored it yet. Check it out if you haven't yet.

-it's kinda tough to rate music because everyone has their different tastes in what's good and what isn't...so, DISCLAIMER:

This is ONLY my opinion!

If you like TIGHT hardcore, check out Stretch Arm Strong, Living Sacrifice, Project 86 or P.O.D.

Selfmindead are strictly Hardcore. It has been a really lnong time since i have listened to the cd. I like a few Hardcore bands, not very many at all. I found it almost impossible to sit down and listen to this cd, just because it's Hardcore. If you like Hardcore than I would tell you that you should pick this cd up, you'll love it.

1.0 out of 5 stars I didn't care for it., July 5, 1999

This review is from: Selfmindead (Audio CD)
Selfmindead, a tight and original band?? What's wrong with you people? The vocals are too poppy to be metal, hardcore, or even high energy rock 'n roll. The guitars are too oppressed to be impressive. The drumming is below average. The lyrics are only half-intellectual. I have a problem with any band who sings songs about machinery and technology taking us over, not only is it cliched, but it's hypocritical. Those same people have to use amplifiers for their music to be played, electronic effects pedals to replicate their music live, and telephones to keep in touch with their families on tour. Perhaps they were hoping for a spot on Woodstock '99 by singing a semi-political song? If you want really great Christian metal and hardcore bands, try Klank, Bloodshed and The Moodswingers. If you want music that doesn't limit itself to one particular topic, try great bands like Slipknot, Tool and Amorphis. Christ does save, but music is music. Selfmindead is not a good band. But try the artists I recommend for thorough listening experiences.
