I've been selling books online for quite sometime, so I actualy bought this book for my daughter, who's now a stay-at-home mom, having left a fairly powerful corporate job to be at home with her children. So, I can't tell you how surprised I was when I started looking through it and found tips and techniques I had never used, thought of or heard of from other sellers. The author also embedded a tremendous amount of information in stories, and profiles of different sellers and their business models. It really made the book enjoyable, even though I tend to dislike nonfiction. It read like "Rich Dad Poor Dad" but had both step-by-step instructions, for people just getting started, and ideas for people like me who already have businesses but want ideas for making more money and finding more high-dollar books. She spent more time than any of the other authors I've read helping the reader recognize and find high-dollar books. She even gave tiles of books, under all the different categories (including VHS tapes, cassettes, and Cd's), to help with name recognition and even the names of series that are worth a lot of money. I really didn't know a lot about finding these high dollar older technical books, that I usually pass buy, but she taught me how to recognize the good ones and market them to sell. I like her model of selling a low-quantity of high-dollar books, but she gave very careful instructions on high-volume selling of books with a lower sales rank, that are easy to find. I also was impressed with her chart that showed how her business evolved as she improved it with different techniques. So she backed up everything she said in a cahrt that was worth a thousand words.Read more ›

I've only been in the business of selling book for several months. I've learned quite a bit through trial and error, mostly by my mistakes. If only I had known of this book before I began. It would have saved me much time and even more money. I loved the author's humorous style of writing and vast knowledge of the book selling business. It was because of this book that my business has escalated more than I ever thought possible. And she's right--there ARE enough books to go around for everyone. I've been so frustrated by trying to learn more information for my business. The forum on Amazon is not that helpful, because so many view anyone as the competition and thereby off limits to enlighten them. Many thanks to the author for her generous, informative help for the rest of us.

I have been selling books on Amazon for several months now and was looking for a book that could give me a little more expertise and tips on how to be more effective at buying and selling books. I found this book to be mostly information I have read many times before in other places, with very little new useful info for anyone who has been selling for more than a few months. This book has some good information for new book sellers, but you can get 99% of this info by reading the Amazon.com guidelines on selling and reading Michael E. Moulds' blog, both of which are free. If you don't want to spend 30 minutes on Google to get this information for yourself, then this is the book for you. If not, don't waste your money.

How to Sell Books on Amazon isn't just a how-to manual for fledgling bookmen (the title notwithstanding), it is the ultimate how-to book for anyone who aspires to write a how-to book.

If only every author would put as much thought, care and concern into their material. Christine Miller knows how to mind meld with her audience. She lays out her program with an upbeat style that's like a visit with her to the local Barnes & Noble café, where you talk the book business on a coffee jag, the ideas "exploding like spiders across the stars," as Jack Kerouac said.

As Ms. Miller suggests, it's a good idea to read other bookselling guides. "No one bookseller knows everything there is to know," she says. Only by reading other guides will you appreciate just how far this book surpasses them. When you finish this book, not only will you be armed with the information you need, you will be charged up, ready to hunt for treasure at your local Goodwill "superstore" or garage sale.

The book is organized into sections labeled "Motivation, Preparation, Education, Inspiration, Perspiration, Innovation, and Dedication." She elaborates on these themes with clear, concise advice that proves these aren't just fancy chapter headings. They are cleverly-conceived elements of a grand strategy for winning hard-earned freedom in the world of ecommerce.

The high points are too numerous to list. Among them are: Lists of books Ms. Miller has sold, with the selling price; an explanation of the Amazon sales rank and how it applies to your business; inventory management, and profiles of other successful Amazon booksellers. Ms. Miller describes her strategy of selling high-dollar, slow-selling books.

When I decided to attack my book buying & selling religiously, I turned Christine E. Miller's manual into my bible & my prayers were answered.

Before reading this guide, I thought I knew what it took to search out used books, list them, and make $1000/month. The author convinced me that I didn't have to settle for this if I expanded my search area, invested in what she calls a "look-up tool," and expanded my inventory three-fold.

She walks the neophyte through the process of buying, stocking, listing, and shipping in an upbeat, sometimes humorous tone. Especially strong was the section on pricing, sales rank, and availability. How many of us have looked at price alone without taking into account how long it make take to move the book or how many other copies were listed?

Before reading the book, I had thought I could pick up some tips on where to buy books online, but she makes it clear that her suggestions on locales were for brick and mortar only.

A new bookseller tends to list a title quickly just to get the process going. Christine's Appendices section helps new and seasoned sellers learn/review Amazon's listing guidelines and terminology. Who knew that words like "sunned," "cocked," and "foxed" can be used to describe books?
Many new booksellers are stymed by other bookscouts' special beeping devices. This manual's list of "look-up tools" and pricing software websites, while not complete, answers many of these questions.

Just because you've shipped out a book doesn't necessarily mean you're finished with it either. This manual deals with confirmation letters and letters to request negative feedback removal.

I've read Christine Miller's book cover to cover, and am confident that I made the right decision in giving up a career teaching middle school Language Arts for the "rush" that comes from seeing that Amazon email telling me I'd sold another book. Thank you Christine.
