5.0 out of 5 stars Don't overlook this record, January 29, 2007

I bought these guys and Mobile together after falling in love with several of their tracks on XM's The Verge.

This is one of those albums that really sinks in after repeated listenings. Yes, I hear some older influences, but there are plenty of fresh ideas here. A few tracks remind me of Calla, another great indie band.

The songwriting is understated, melodic, and not at all bombastic (which is good for me since I'm more than a little tired of that card being played).

Highly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars We Need More, January 12, 2007
This review is from: Sell Control for Life's Speed (Audio CD)
As a Canadian that lived in the U.S., I can honestly say that I am very pleased to hear bands like Pilate, Mobile, Metric,etc.. putting in their bid for world class rock. Although none of these bands are as visionary as their predecessors, they have likely opened several doors for other Canadian acts. The national pride in Canada is very low, hence making it difficult for young bands to be inspired. I for the most part, am not interested in most things that are Canadian, quite frankly, I find them boring an uninspired.

Pilate has a great appraoch, their sound is tight and well thought out. There's nothing ground-breaking about this band or any of the others mentioned, but something more important is happening, we have great talent here. The sound is definitly a mix of early influences like U2, The Cure, and a host of other 80's bands, but they manage to maintain their identity and have some fun doing it. This album is most certainly an indication of a band worth keeping an eye on, this was true of Our Lady Peace once upon a time, let's hope Pilate doesn't suffer the same fate.
