I'm been reading Patrick's blog for several years and even though I've read most of the articles included in this ebook, I think it's definitely worth it to read them again reorganized for ebook consumption. :-) It covers many topics missed by would-be software entrepreneurs and drives them home with concrete examples AND numbers. Everything required to convince someone with an engineering background of alien sales and marketing concepts. ;-)

I highly recommend it!

I really enjoyed this book, while there is a lot of content from Patrick's blog there are new essays and a curated selection of the best posts from his blog. I haven't been following Patrick for a long time, so it was very helpful to me to have the best content selected and categorized for me.

I am implementing many of the recommendations in my SaaS business, Patrick has a lot to say from his personal experience and he is always willing to share his wisdom. While my business is in an early stage, his recommendations are spot on and go to the heart of what is important for your business. Don't spend endless time working on things no one wants, test everything and build infrastructure to make testing dirt simple for engineering to implement, and strive to make content creation as automated as possible. I especially like his insight that SEO can be a channel just like PPC advertising, it really got me to thinking about how we are approaching SEO.

This book is absolutely worth many times the price, if you have a SaaS business you *MUST* read this book.

Patrick gives real actionable advice by using his fledging startup as a case study. I have at least 10 things I can start to implement tomorrow.

Thanks Patrick!

Taking posts from a blog and then combining them into a book has to be a difficult thing. But this book does it quite well. If you want a word that summarizes this entire book, it's "experiment". Mckenzies emphasizes the importance of experimentation through structured testing. In his writing, marketing may not only be about increasing your sales/subscribers but it is about practical and strategic testing to learn something. That was the most important thing I got out of this book. As a small business person, I have tried marketing strategies with success and failure, but in the case of the latter, I did not learn as much as I should have from the failures. Mckenzie relates his own real world tests and results (more qualitatively than quantitatively) and reveals that

(1) You have to be constantly testing as long as your business exists
(2) Always know what you are trying to find out from the tests
(3) Testing does not have to be expensive. In fact it can save you loads of marketing $$

This book spoke to me because it was filled with practical examples, some of which are not difficult to emulate. I will definitely be taking some of Mckenzie's advice.

The only reason that I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that even though they did do a good job of putting it all in a book format, you can still detect that it is a collection of blogs.

Still, I highly recommend this read if you are into doing!

Patrick truely understands the power we hold as software developers and this book is full of extremely relevant and actionable articles. He emphasizes using data to engineer every aspect of your business - marketing, email campaigns, new features - and it all just makes sense.

Any developer who is writing a sellable product will save themselves many days by reading over these hard-learned lessons.

I really enjoyed reading the book. Only note is that it is a conglomeration of his blog posts, so you could go read his most popular posts on the blog and read the same thing for free.
