Part of the reason I bought this book is because I'm a self-publisher, and when you're just getting a start in this business, you need to figure out how to travel this road. This book claimed to really understand this road and I bought it because of that.

Unfortunately, it pretends to know more about what it preaches than it actually does. The book is probably decent if you're writing nonfiction or business writing, but when it comes to fiction it says nothing new and keeps repeating the same mantra of "give them something they need and want" over and over again but really doesn't translate that into any reality that might work for a fiction writer.

Having discussed this book with a lot of other self-publishing writers, we all came to the same conclusion that it's another one of those books that hypes a lot about itself but really doesn't deliver.

Sell Your Book Like Wildfire is a treasure trove of marketing tips, advice and action steps. Rob Eagar doesn't just tell you what to do, he takes you by the hand and shows you how to do it. What most other books don't do, he does by giving you links to resources, chapter per chapter that add value to the book itself and your experience as a reader. Bonus articles, updates and extras abound in this excellent work.

You want action steps, he lists them in doable form and gives concrete examples to get you started. For instance his section on creating your value statement about your book you can download an action guide that tells you how to write that value statement if you've never done one.

He doesn't leave the fiction writer at the doorstep as so many "sell your book" authors do, he incorporates methods to be used by both fiction and nonfiction writers in every chapter. He shows the reader how to get media interviews, how to keep them focused on what you want them to be about and so much more. Chapter fourteen singles out marketing tips for fiction writers. From website tweaking, to extras to offer for your fiction book that will set your word of mouth on fire, Eagar covers it all.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to get noticed before, during and after, they have a book published.

Rob's book 'Sell Your Book like Wildfire' has remarkable potential to change your marketing effectiveness. The only limitation is that you will have to first read the book and then apply the numerous practical ideas. It would be great to find an easier way where books just sell themselves. Rob debunks us of our fantasies about how marketing really works. He drags us out of our self-centeredness and helps us focus on loving our neighbour/potential reader by starting where they are at, not where we want them to be.

People are busy and distracted. They need solid gripping reasons why they should bother to invest in your book. Rob helps you come up with the winsome elevator speech that gets to the heart of why people should bother to open up your book. Rob has a track record of making this actually work. He shares vulnerably and hopefully in a way that inspires and encourages. All authors needs inspiration and encouragement. Take a chance on a book that will help you sell your book like wildfire.

I write fiction, and Rob Eager wisely has a chapter devoted specifically to fiction in this wonderful guide. That chapter sent me to others in the book to get additional information. If you get only one fresh idea from SELL YOUR BOOK LIKE WILDFIRE (and I'm betting you'll get a lot more than just one) it will have paid for itself over and over again.

Wow. Rob's marketing principles and advice really work. I have read and incorporated about half of Rob's advice in this book and it has already increased my speaking opportunities, increased my book's audience, and increased my book's sales. I'm now eagerly working on appplying the other half of the advice he provides in his book. This is well worth the investment to read and apply.

This is a fine marketing book for non-fiction, where you have information to share and topic that fits for creating a conference talk. If your book is fiction, memoir, anything other than non-fiction, it isn't going to be very helpful. Also, I looked at the author's book website after reading in his book the importance of keeping an up to date web presence, and his website has been neglected. I guess this book is old enough it isn't worth keeping up.

As an author myself here is what I look for in a book of marketing advice for authors: Accurate, Practical & Proven, Up-to-Date, Innovative, Realistic, Honest, Well-researched, Well-written and enjoyable to read. This book is all of these.

I just sent the link for Wildfire to an author friend whose newly released book I wrote a back-cover endorsement blurb for. I recommended the book to her because I want her to succeed. To authors who are SERIOUS about getting their message out I recommend this book.

But note that just READING the book won't change anything unless you APPLY it. Rob Eagar hasn't written a book just to inspire us and blow smoke up our book spines, but to challenge us to action. But challenge and motivation is of little use to me without innovative and practical strategies that work. This book is a high powered locomotive WITH tracks to run on.

"Sell You Book Like Wildfire: The Writer's Guide To Marketing & Publicity" by Rob Eagar is a good book for any writer to use to help with marketing and promotional efforts. After all, writing the book is only part of the battle, selling it can often be more difficult than writing it in the first place. Eagar, the founder of WildFire Marketing, a consulting practice that helps authors and publishers sell more books and spread their message, has put the information he's used to help himself and clients into this book to help all authors and publishers sell more books.

There are chapters on a variety of strategies, and even if some of what Eagar teaches is not for you, there will undoubtedly be some that is. Some of the topics covered include establishing your expertise, making your mark with an author brand, websites, interviews, using amazon, social networking tips, working with publishers and agents, selling books through public speaking, and creating newsletters that get results and help sell books. The final chapters includes some extra marketing tips for fiction.

The strategies contained in this book might not be easy, but they can be effective. Some of them are not cheap, so if you are working on a shoe-string budget, you might have to pass on some or wait until you have a little more cash flow. However, other strategies can be done, and should be done, by any author who desires more sales.

After a quick read through, this book should be handy on the writer's shelf to use when working on marketing plans and strategies. It's a good guide with principles that will help authors that implement them. Even if you have other marketing books for writers, I suggest you add this one and use them all.

Rob Eagar's book 'Sell Your Book like Wildfire' surely set a fire under my procrastinating self! I am new to the writing world and I lack plenty of knowledge about the process, most of which is marketing. My fear sometimes will keep me from pursuing something very important to me. Not this time. By reading this book, it snuffed out my fear while setting a wilfire to my motivation.
This book will help you think outside the box in only the first chapter! The ideas that Rob Eagar gives in his book brings numerous inspiring "aha" moments.
Sell Your Book like Wildfire gave me much practical advice and step by step process that has helped me feel confident to enter into this very competitive world of book writing. After reading this book, I feel as if I have an Ace in my pocket, a secret weapon of sorts, to burst through the front door of book sales.
He has had to learn these skills from scratch and is now so kind enough to share the do's and dont's with author's who have no idea about marketing.
Rob Eagar writes with a mix of expertise and a humbling sense of his beginnigs. This book is written in simple terms and the information is simple to understand.
This book has given me the confidence to move forward with inspiring, creative ideas on how to market my book.

I bought this book before I even finished writing my first book so I let it sit for a while. Wish I had read it sooner, but I can't wait to start applying the concepts that were so clearly laid out. Never before have a read such a well-written, practical, and thorough resource. Rob covered so many areas of marketing a book and each one contained very specific do's and don'ts, backed up with plenty of specific examples from his own experience as well as that of specific clients. I feel better equipped than I ever have before and now know what I need to do as I head into 2015. Thank you!
