I opened this book a very reluctant reader: I just don't go for the feng shui, aromatherapy, crystals, and sychronicity stuff. Don't put much credibility in UFOs or Elvis sightings either. (My wife put me up to reading Sell Your Home FASTER... because she said I would enjoy it and would find it credible. She also said she was going to make some changes around the house and it would be much better for me if I understood why.)
She was right-my attitude has changed. The book is practical, well thought out, well researched, to the point, and a total pleasure to read.
So when I finished the book, Beth and I went about making the changes Holly recommends. (Holly is one of those writers with the gift of making you feel like you know her.) We rearranged a few things, simplified others, and generally, took on a new attitude about how we are inside our house, how we relate to the energy.
Feng shui or no feng shui, it worked. Our house just feels better. There is a difference in the way we feel too. We are more at peace; the house seems more inviting and restful. Our friends notice the difference in the way the house feels. (And most of them aren't kooks!)
Okay, we haven't doubled our income and the Publishers Clearing House van hasn't pulled into our driveway, but, we are more prosperous-we have richer lives. When the day comes to sell our house, I am quite sure we will get another 5-10 percent more than we would have without these feng shui changes (the house looks and feels 15 percent larger).
Great ideas, great book. We bought a second copy and are lending it to others!

Okay, here's the bottom line: I bought the book. My house had been on the market for four months. I had tried everything (lowered the price twice), fired one agent, hired another, offered incentives, I was about ready to pray to some Catholic saint in charge of selling homes and my real estate agent said, "buy this book." So I did. I did the stuff the quack author recommended (cost me about $$$ and two days of my time) and four days later, the first person to see the house after I made the changes, wrote an offer for full price. I'm not into miracles. Guess that does not matter. The house is now sold. That's the bottom line. Do I recommend this book? Only if you want to sell your house.

As a Feng Shui Consultant, I met Holly Ziegler at a FS conference. I literally purchased one of the first books off the presses. We were planning to put our house on the market. I read the book, followed Ms Ziegler's suggestions, our house sold in HOURS! I now incorporate these practices when working with clients who are selling homes (and businesses) and have had great success. Ms Ziegler is right on the mark.

A Feng Shui Practitioner

I was so impressed with this book I gave my Realtor a copy! Because the author is a Realtor herself, my broker "got" it immediately. He told me the most successful brokers in our area are increasingly using Feng Shui to market properties for clients, especially at the high end - but that even modest homes are selling better with Feng Shui.

Holly's book capitivated me from the start. I find the concept of using feng shui with real estate to be common sense based with a touch of mysticism. The book is a MUST if you are already involved in feng shui OR real estate and are thinking of melding the two.

The book is comprehensible, cohesive and well written while peppered with captivating real life stories that help you get a deeper understanding of the impact feng shui and real estate have together.

Ms Ziegler's book is a very smooth and welcoming introduction to the essential principles of Feng Shui and the way they apply to keeping, managing and presenting a home to ourselves and to others. Much of her advice is simply practical - but often ignored. How many of us make sure all the little things work, spaces are well lit and aired? I liked this book. It's a good mix of general feng shui tips and
advice from a real estate professional. It was useful when I sold
my house. However some of the feng shui tips are
from the black hat school which in my experience are too general
to be really effective. So if you just want some good advice to sell
your house, this will help. If you really need to feng shui your house
learn classical feng shui.
