4.0 out of 5 stars David Schipper's "Sell Out"

3.0 out of 5 stars AGREED MOSTLY WITH AUTHOR BUT...
The book is unsurprisingly one-sided but surprisingly naive. I personally believe the "acquittal" of the previous president was a mockery of justice but it was a foregone conclusion after the disappointing - for Republicans - results of the 1998 mid-term elections.

Mr. Schippers denounces the leadership of both parties. However, I cannot understand how...

David names names and you will find out what you probably did not want to know. However, those who love this land and what it stands for will want to know the whole truth, however distasteful that may be.

I highly recommend reading this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bipartisan Bashing., November 16, 2000
This review is from: Sellout: The Inside Story of President Clinton's Impeachment (Hardcover)
Anyone who cares enough about freedom and democracy to take the time to cast a vote must read David Schippers' book, "Sell Out." Schippers establishes himself as a fair and independent thinker with high integrity, and then proceeds to tell the true story behind the impeachment of Bill Clinton, revealing the liars and cowards on both sides of the aisle. It's good reading.

But the real story in this book is the revelation on what Schippers was working on before Zippergate pushed it to the sidelines. To this he devotes a few dozen pages early in the book in which he details his investigation of Al Gore's activities with the INS prior to the 1996 election. In an effort to expedite the naturalization of one million immigrants who might be more likely to vote Democratic, Team Gore pressured the INS to suspend standard background check procedures on applicants for US citizenship. The result was 75,000 convicted felons naturalized--20% of whom had re-offended as US citizens within two years--and another 168,000 naturalized without proper fingerprinting and FBI criminal history checks. Clinton/Gore imported criminals to maintain power. Literally thousands of US citizens were needlessly robbed, raped, and murdered as a result.

In light of the other Democratic voter fraud allegations such as giving away cigarettes in Milwaukee, touring the jails to register misdemeanor crooks, and the mysterious disappearing 50,000-vote Bush lead in Florida late on election night, the INS debacle is something worth reading about. Most people have never heard this story. The mainstream Press won't touch it. This is arguably the worst political offense ever committed in this country, if true. Schippers, a life-long Democrat who voted twice for Clinton, shares the facts and makes a convincing case. --Christopher Bonn Jonnes, author of Wake Up Dead.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sharp, insightful read-would've made Hillary vote 2 Impeach, August 22, 2000

This review is from: Sellout: The Inside Story of President Clinton's Impeachment (Hardcover)
The book presents the intricacies of the wars within the impeachment battle so simply and powerfully that a readers emotions cant helped but be stirred, regardless of one's political affilation. Schippers elegantly presents Impeachment's political heroes of principal and the weak willed deal making scoundrels. Over all the book makes the reader see, sadly, the politcal process and the will of its people for what it is. It unfolds like a Greek Tragedy; a must read for political junkies, those of principle, or those that enjoy good battle.

4.0 out of 5 stars I Read This Book in Two Days, August 23, 2000

David, thank you. This is the insider account I have been waiting for. Schippers has done the nation a service by writing this account of the Impeachment investigations and proceedings. I trust him because he is a life-long Democrat who voted for Clinton twice; and because his writing displays the integrity of one who grasps the rule of law and understands the consequences when those in power get away with committing felonies. Reviewers who characterize this book as a partisan attack are simply not using their little grey cells. Schippers demonstrates his enourmous integrity by patiently facing dripping ridicule and disinformation from members of his own party. He understands that his is a reasoned argument that will persuade those who are genuinely open-minded and who are genuinely interested in the truth. His thought processes are an antidote to ideological poison on both sides. It is incredible that NOT ONE of the Senators examined the evidence, much of which was not made available to them prior to the Senate Trial. I had great hopes for President Clinton. And I used to have respect for a handful of Senators, both Democrat and Republican. Schippers demonstrates that his team, Congressman Hyde, and the House Managers were among the few who found the guts to rise above party politics and act from a principled position that endangered their political lives. If the Democrats and Republiicans are successful in spinning the Impeachment so that history fails to acknowledge Clinton's many felonies and the damage he has done, then our Nation is indeed in decline and tyranny not far away. My only mild complaint is that he was unable to name all the names. But he names enough. And don't miss the evidence he presents showing that both Clinton and Gore feloniously manipulated INS citizenship to allow tens of thousands of criminals into our country, simply to get votes for the 1996 elections. I am ashamed of this administration, and hope that the stables will finally be cleaned this November.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read for any informed voter!, October 17, 2000
By
This review is from: Sellout: The Inside Story of President Clinton's Impeachment (Hardcover)
We are told by those in the popular media that the public is wanting to put the impeachment proceedings of 1998-1999 behind them. But, for any informed and/or educated voter, it is vitally important to know what prompted the proceedings and the dynamics behind what transpired. "Sellout" by David Schippers is that book that sheds light on the whole episode.

Mr. Schippers impressed me tremendously with the way he carried out the impeachment proceedings. Unlike anyone else involved - that goes for every politician AND every member of the media - he was perhaps the one individual who put politics aside for the sake of law and seeing justice done. He understood that what transpired was not a result of the so-called "vast right-wing conspiracy", and also understood that they couldn't just ignore the charges against President Clinton because widespread and wholesale violation of the law had occurred.

"Sellout", then, is his account of what all took place. In it, we are presented with the facts without any pretense of political bias. He admits at the outset to being a lifelong Democrat, but in the course of this book, one can find - if he or she is honest with oneself - no political bias or spin. It is, in those immortal words, "just the facts".

He describes how the Republicans in the Senate turned their backs on the law, along with the Democrats, all under the guise of "bipartisanship". Here, the reader finally gets the names of those who sabotaged the impeachment trial before it ever cleared the House of Representatives. Mr. Schippers also plots out the total lack of regard for the law in both parties, despite the overwhelming evidence, that ultimately led to a travesty of justice.

Mr. Schippers also backs up his account with the evidence that can be shown in conformity with the law. He presents partial or full transcripts from various testimony and, more remarkably, the documents showing a startling plot to naturalize immigrants (legal and illegal) in order to bolster the Democrat vote.

I must admit that I am a Republican, but I found Mr. Schippers account to be sickening in regards to how the Republicans in Congress acted. And if there was any way to have any less respect for the Democrats in Congress, this book found that way. "Throw the bums out? " After reading this book, I say "You betcha!"...Republicans and Democrats alike. This book shows that nobody in the Senate, and a great many in the House, should be able to claim that they did the right thing. Their actions did serious damage to the law and the Constitution, so they have nothing to be proud of.

I again commend Mr. Schippers for writing this book. He really came out of the impeachment proceedings as a true patriot, and does the American public a tremendous service by writing "Sellout". If anything, it makes me give even more thought to who I elect to Congress in the future. That is why I rate this book with the full 5 stars, and heartily recommend it as essential reading to voters throughout the political spectrum.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stunning!, August 28, 2000
By
This review is from: Sellout: The Inside Story of President Clinton's Impeachment (Hardcover)
David Schippers' "Sell Out" is an incredible indictment, not only of Clinton, but our "representatives" in Washington. The travails of Clinton are well known - what is really shocking is the fact that not one Senator logged into the evidence room to review the documentation first-hand prior to the impeachment hearings! If you are jaded by politics and media spin, this account makes you wonder if watching the network news or voting are worth the time and effort. A well documented, gripping story, and call to arms for Americans to campaign actively for term limits.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Clinton legacy, and it ain't pretty, August 22, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Sellout: The Inside Story of President Clinton's Impeachment (Hardcover)
Well, the Clinton legacy has been written for all to see. David P. Schippers book, "Sell Out" is a look inside the impeachment of a crooked president and how his minions were used to protect him from getting the justice We, the American People, deserved.

No matter what lies and deceit Clinton's Library may have, "Sell Out" shows what really happened. How the Republicans lost their nerve, and the Democrats prevented "one of their own" from being prosecuted.

This book will make you mad, but it will tell you the truth, and that may help. It will also be Number 1 soon

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, Shocking, Disgusting, August 26, 2000

This review is from: Sellout: The Inside Story of President Clinton's Impeachment (Hardcover)
This book is an excellent summarisation of the case against Bill Clinton, and proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is guilty of perjury, obstruction of justice and abuse of power. Brain-dead Clinton fans may wail and moan about it, but it is undeniable. And it is also undeniable, on the basis of Schippers' excellent volume, that the Republican Senators for the most part lost their courage when it was required most. Hopefully this courage will be recovered in the coming years, and justice will be done.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Defiant Honesty Of David Schippers, October 4, 2000
This review is from: Sellout: The Inside Story of President Clinton's Impeachment (Hardcover)
A lifelong Democrat, David Schippers led the Justice Department's Organized Crime and Racketeering Unit under Robert Kennedy during the Johnson Administration before returning to his native Chicago to work as a trial attorney. During the impeachment proceedings against Bill Clinton Schippers was appointed by Henry Hyde as chief investigative counsel.

It is as such that Schippers witnessed the spectacle of the investigation of Clinton and of the ruthless conspiracy - there is really no better descriptive term - by the White House to obstruct the investigation and hide the truth. He was also witness to the dishonesty of Congressional Democrats and the appalling timidity of Republicans, who basically fumbled the ball away and thus allowed Clinton et al to escape punishment.

Schippers details the real reason for the impeachment of Clinton - his wholesale abuse of power, violations of the Constitution, obstruction of justice, witness tampering, serial perjury and subornation of perjury, and so forth. Though the basic truth of Clinton's megalomania has been well known for a long time, it is still a stunning revelation when one pores through the record to see just what kind of people Clinton and his acolytes truly are.

Schippers notes the wholesale dishonesty of Democrats - he notes how they, often led by the always-obstreperous Barney Frank, not only didn't review the evidence, they didn't even try - Schippers and his staff set up an evidence room stocked with videos, transcripts, etc, and while 65 Republicans entered the room and examined the evidence, not one Democrat did. They had basically made up their mind to back Clinton regardless of truth.

Schippers also details how the Republican leadership sabotaged their own trial by forbidding the calling of live witnesses and by severely limiting how much evidence could be presented - all because of polls showing, thanks to the White House's designated liars, that Ken Starr and company were felt to have somehow defiled the Constitution.

Schippers notes acidly how even when the Senate was deliberating on whether to convict Clinton, the evidence room was still open, yet none of them, of either party, took the time to look. It says a lot about just how little integrity there is in modern government.

Schippers' book is a necessary corrective to the lies and distortions of those who still want to portray the impeachment as some kind of partisan witch hunt over a "private" sexual misstep, for what is really going on is what Schippers courageously makes clear - the machinations of a President who is nothing but a serial lawbreaker.

5.0 out of 5 stars David Schippers is the unsung hero of Impeachment, August 23, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Sellout: The Inside Story of President Clinton's Impeachment (Hardcover)
I have seen excerpts of the book and all the events is as I remember them. I was in Washington DC at the time of impeachment I remember some Republican senators did not want to touch Impeachment of President Clinton with a ten foot pole. I believe that all the House managers including David Schippers are the heroes of the Impeachment because they did their job that was mandated under the Constitution.
