'Beleza Pura' was the first Caetano's song I ever heard, more than 10 years ago. I simply loved it, and I still love it today. But more important, I discovered a genius, a voice, a poet, a charming personality. I own practically all Caetano's work today. This is a tasteful selection of songs, including the glimmering 'Sampa' and 'Voce e Linda' (probably some of the very best of Caetano, side by side to the sublimely touching 'Maria Bethania' -which, by the way, has English lyrics as Caetano wrote it while he was exiled in London), so this anthology is quite proper to serve as an introduction to Caetano. Enjoy it. Buy this one today: Caetano Veloso is one of the most talented (and influencing) artists of our century (you will realize this whether you like Brazilian music or not). While you are at it, buy 'Circulado Vivo' too... and all the others...

As a Tropicalia fan, I would argue that it is worth buying all the original albums. However, with a compilation like this you cant go wrong, and although some pearls are missing, it cover a widish range of Caetano's phases.

Este cd tiene un criterio muy acertado en los mismos, y encontramos muchos de los que fueron grandes sucesos de su trayectoria. las grabaciones son las originales de cada tema y es una excelente oportunidad para las que no disponen de una discografia amplia de este excelente cantautor al igual que para aquellos que se aproximan por primera vez a este gran musico, ya que el numero y calidad de las canciones nos permite un panorama global de su extensa carrera

This album is beautiful, Caetano's voice is beautiful, the songs are beautiful. If you are even thinking of getting this album it is well worth the investment. Enjoy!

Caetano Veloso sings about love, of course, but he also effectively captures the tenor of a generation in Brazil, and this "Best Hits" collection spans several decades of his skill in channeling that Zeitgeist. Highly, highly recommended classic album of 60s-80s Tropicalia and more experimental music.

In my opinion Sem Lenco e sem documento is even better than his Greatest Hits CD.

As a Tropicalia fan, I would argue that it is worth buying all the original albums. However, with a compilation like this you cant go wrong, and although some pearls are missing, it cover a widish range of Caetano's phases.

It is true that this "best of" collection contains Caetano classics, but these are old recordings from the 60s, 70s and 80s. The sounds are poor, recording techniques primitive and one is left to wish for better production work. So, I would recommend this cd only to a listener who truly loves old sounds. For all others I would say: look for newer recordings of these songs. They are available.
