I purchased these dolls for my daughter's 3rd birthday. She loves them. Her favorite task is to take them all out, line them up by size, and then have the larger ones gobble up the smaller ones in the appropriate size order, starting with the smallest. She also talks about how babies grow in their mommies' tummies and assigns a birth order to each of the dolls based on their size. Overall I think it's a nice toy for a little girl of this age. If you are tired of all the toys that make noise, light up, require batteries, and are deemed "educational", try these dolls for some quiet imaginative play.

After purchasing the book, The Littlest Matryoshka by Corinne Demas Bliss, I knew I needed a set of Russian nesting dolls. I found the perfect set on amazon.com to accompany the book and ordered them immediately. The set of six dolls came much earlier than I had anticipated - within a few days of placing my order. I was very surprised at the beauty and craftmanship of the dolls because the price was low for such a set. The dolls plus the book will make for great lessons on family values of caring for each other. I can hardly wait to see my granddaughter's eyes light up as she holds them in her hands and hears the beautiful story - no value can be placed on that!

Thanks to the artist who is responsible for crafting such a wonderful set of dolls, for the Russian coin so carefully tucked away in the set, and for the love that has gone into creating them. These dolls are sure to become a cherished item in my grandchild's room.

Russian nesting dolls are the perfect learning toy for young children, and simplicity of play is needed in our world of noisy, battery operated, plastic toys. Between late infancy and early toddler-hood (and beyond) kids love to put lids on things, open and close things, place things inside of other things. They develop their dexterity and spacial reasoning by engaging in these simple activities. The dolls are bright and appealing to children and, if well cared for, will last a long time. My one year old is enjoying them, though we took the smallest doll out, as it may pose a choking hazard.
