After several years in the chartless wilderness, one of country's most distinctive song stylists came back stronger than ever in 1992 with this hit-filled album. With a rich, Southern-cured voice sounding something like a twangy Charlie Rich, Anderson had been one of country's shining lights during the fallow early '80s, then faded just as the music woke up again mid-decade.

He hit right off the bat with this album's second track, "Straight Tequila Night," with an indelible guitar hook and trademark mournful fiddle framing a compassionate narrative of bitterness and loss--a modern classic.

The album meanders a bit unevenly from that point, with highlights including the tough, funky "Steamy Windows" (earlier cut by Tina Turner), the ballad heartbreaker "Cold Day in Hell," and "Look Away," an amusingly jaundiced appraisal of the New South. But the last two tracks restore the quality bar to instant-classic heights. Anderson's sinuously grooved version of Dire Straits' "When It Comes to You" (with Mark Knopfler on guitar) is possibly the best of many Knopfler country covers. The elegiac closing title track was probably the first country hit to address present-day environmental concerns head-on, and its Everglades orientation lends conviction to Florida native Anderson's heartfelt yet understated delivery. --Ken Barnes

"Seminole Wind" is a meaningful song with some awesome music. It makes my skin tingle when I listen. "Straight Tequila Night" is a great song telling of a woman who has been burned by love & is now wary. On "When it Comes to You", the music has an attitude all its own. John's voice is a truly wonderful, distinctive, rich baritone. I find it really hot ;0) If you honestly like lame songs, pop slop, or high pitched whiny voices that dominate most of the current country scene, this CD is not for you. Anyone else should buy this CD.

Whether you are a country music fan or not, John Anderson's Seminole Wind is a stunning classic work of popular music.

The title cut Seminole Wind, penned by Anderson, is one of the most beautiful songs to ever grace the airways. Anderson's vocals are always unique and a bit quirky ... and with this CD, he is at his best.

On top of that, the song Seminole Wind, sends us an important environmental message. This message is that the Florida Everglades are going dry because of a lack of consideration by man, for the fragile environmental balance of the land and water, and the negative impact this has had on the Glades.

This CD has at least 3 "radio hits" to the best of my memory and they hold up very nicely over time. The title cut Seminole wind, Straight Tequila Night and Dire Strait's primo guitarist Mark Knopfler's amazing contribution to this CD - When It Comes To You, were all heavily rotated on most all radio stations without respect to genre.

Knopfler's signature guitar licks are unmistakable. He is perhaps, one of the most easily recognized guitarist's of popular music because of his stylized guitar playing. Seminole Wind is all the better because of Knopfler's contribution to this CD.

If you are considering buying Seminole Wind, take the leap of faith and get your hands on this masterwork. It is not to be missed by any serious popular music connoisseur.

This album, in my humble opinion is one of the best country albums ever recorded. Every single song on this album is fantastic. "Straight Tequila Night", "Steamy Windows" and the title track "Seminole Wind" are just perfect music by an artist at the top of his game. John has released other very good albums, but this one remains his personal best ever. According to the awards this one has gathered, I'm not alone in this opinion! Buy it and be prepared to be blown away.

John Anderson had been around for awhile. Had a string of hits. Then kind of faded off. This cd got him back on top for awhile. This is a very good cd. With the hits Straight Tequila Night, Seminole Wind which could be one of his signature songs. And my favorite When It Comes To You. There are a couple of other songs that I think could have been released as singles. Hillbilly Hollywood about playing the stage of the Opry. And also recorded by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Let Go Of The Stone. And maybe Steamy Windows.with that Tony Joe White swamp music sound. The whole cd is good.
