Features include Bluetooth 3.0, multi-point connection, and conferencing for up to 4 people

Thanks to the latest Bluetooth v3.0 and the advanced digital processing technology, the SMH5D-01 offers the best sound quality for both incoming and outgoing sound in its class. Also, the easy-to-access and intuitive button operations make the SMH5D-01 a perfect companion for motorcycles.

Bluetooth v3.0 Wireless

SMH5D-01 can wirelessly connect to other Bluetooth devices supporting HSP/HFP (Headset Profile/Hands Free Profile) and A2DP (Advance Audio Distribution Profile). HSP/HFP is standard in all phones with Bluetooth features. Almost all Bluetooth MP3 players, smartphone, and audio dongles support A2DP to send stereo audio to Bluetooth headsets like the Sena SMH5D-01. Enjoy Bluetooth music playback control by AVRCP: play, pause, track forward and track back.

Other Bluetooth features include Multi-Pair to allow intercom functionality for 4 persons, and compatibility with select motorcycle GPS systems.

Voice Prompt

Safety is a key factor when out on the road and Sena has integrated voice prompts into all of their units to ensure riders can maintain handsfree control. Voice prompts allow riders to operate functions such as GPS, volume control, mobile phone calls and more without needing to take their hands off of the handle bars. Sena provide voice prompt options for multi-language, English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. This is necessary to ensure safety is maintained during times of traffic or congestion.

Individual Adjustable Volume Profiles

You can easily decrease/increase the volume of the voice, music and intercom using Jog Dial. The SMH5D-01 can save volume levels of previously connected profiles. This means that phone volume (HSP/HFP), music volume (A2DP), and intercom volumes will be saved separately and return to its own saved volume level whenever associated profile is reconnected.

Profile volume adjustment is only affected during the use of its specific profile. However, when changing volume during standby mode, then volume change applies to all profiles. Alert tones like low battery warning and connection tones can only be adjusted in standby mode.

Easy Installation for Full-Face Helmets

The SMH5D-01 will fit onto various types of full-face helmets. The standard clamp, included in default packaging, will fit onto most helmets. For installations which may require extra wire length, ear buds instead of speakers, and boom microphone instead of wire microphone, Sena offers different types of clamps as an additional accessory (sold separately), to allow various installations and user preferences.

What's in the Box?

Sena SMH5D-01 Bluetooth Headset, clamp unit, helmet speakers, attachable boom microphone, USB power and data cable, glued surface mounting plate, microphone sponges, speaker pads, velcro pads for speakers and boom mic, attachable boom mic holder, Allen wrench (for installation) manual, warranty.

Needing an intercom for communicating with my passenger during a two week motorcycle ride, I purchased a pair of Sena's SMH5 headsets. To start with the price was great compared to other offerings on the market. It had more than enough features for my needs so I decided to give them a try. Assembly was quick and simple even though the instructions that came with my set were not in English.

After the requisite 2 hour charge, I mounted them to my modular (flip-face) helmets. Installation was very quick and simple. Pairing the devices together was just as simple as was connecting them to our cell phones. Mine connected to an iPhone and hers to an android phone. within just a few minutes we were up and running. Volume control knob was perfect for gloved hands and the tap of the knob to switch between intercom, cell phone and mp3 music worked perfectly. I did actually receive a phone call from someone while riding and after adjusting the volume level, the call came in clearly even at 75mph going down the highway. The intercomm and cell phone volume settings are individually controllable.

I am very satisfied with my purchase (arrived very quickly from The Cyclebots) and even more satisfied with this product. After having had the Cardo-Scala G4 Powerset, this is much more user friendly and much less expensive. In comparison, the range is shorter than the G4 but the volume and simplicity of use was much better. I did forget to recharge the headsets one night after a full day's use but they worked just fine for the next full day of riding and continuous use. My wife's set gave her the low battery warning when hers got too low (at the end of the day) but mine never gave out. I would certainly recommend this product.

Got these units to use on and off road. Plan to use them with my son on the trails and with my wife on the streets mostly for the intercom feature. I was pleasantly surprised on how well the worked with my iPhone though. Bluetooth synced right up and they work great with Siri voice commands.

Installation was a breeze. The speakers have velcro backs that stick well to almost any fabric surface inside the helmet. I did not have to use the tape at all. Although I had extra tape standing by, after reading some reviews about inferior tape that was included.

The pair came pre-synced as intercoms. But becaused I failed to read that first, I synced them up myself, which was very easy and worked on the first attempt.

As intercoms they work great, sound is good, mics are easy to position. As far as the sound quality for music, they leave a little to be desired, music is kind of "tinny". But thats not to big of an issue for me, as before this I had nothing. I am not sure how much I will use it for music execpt maybe on long rides. I still prefer to hear the pipes and not be to distracted while riding.

Did send some text messages using Siri on the iPhone while driving. Very easy. One touch of the button on the Sena unit and told Siri what to type. Same with a phone call. Tired it off the bike, same thing, one touch and told Siri who to call. I do not see myself making many calls while on the bike, thats one reason I ride, is to get away from all that. But it is nice to be able to talk with my passenger without leaning back and yelling through my helmet. So I actually see this as a safer alternative.

Overall very pleased with this purchase and could easily recommend this product to my friends.

I have had a brief experience with the Cardo Scala G4 headsets when I borrowed a set from a friend to try them out. They worked well, but the controls were not so user friendly and I am a geek. My less than geek savvy girlfriend really struggled with the controls.

Along comes the Sena SMH-5, and I am hooked. Price is much more reasonable, has all the features we will ever need, and sounds great. The best features:

The controls! A really easy to use jog dial to start a conversation/adjust volume and the button for cell phones. I don't use my cell because I drive, but she takes calls on hers as a passenger. No problems at all with her using this as compared to the Cardo unit. A simple demo was all it took and she is fully capable of operating it like a pro.

The detachable main unit. It pops off for recharging or storage, but does not take the boom mike or anything else with it! No mic re-positioning, no wire mess, no complex pin insertion when returning it to the mount. Darn nice.

Voice verification of functions. It tells you what is happening and when it is done. Simple!

Clear sound.

Low Price!

Each unit has it's own USB charging cord.

Dual set already paired at the factory

Easy to pair up with phones, has the latest type version of the bluetooth technology.

Some cons:

I think it is laughable that no USB adapter was included to allow the user to plug into a wall socket for charging. They are .49 cents each bulk! I have one for my iPod, and it works fine.

There should be an option for a set of earbuds to replace the speakers. I wear narrow helmets due to my elongated oval head.
