The two cars that move around the puzzle are actually one piece. They move by winding them, NOT battery power. The cars are noisier than expected. The music is activated by pushing a button on a small box that is separate from the cars. Ours wasn't working. We had placed the puzzle on the carpet even though it's recommended to place it on a hard surface, and the cars came off of the path. It's a cute toy, assuming we can get the music to work.
