New Retro?,
By Amanda Richards (Georgetown, Guyana) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Send It With Love (Audio CD)
In an earlier review of Vanessa Williams' "Everlasting Love", I called for the retro craze to step up to the big eighties. I should have specified that I meant bringing back existing eighties songs, not singing new ones.
As a fan of '70s/'80s music, I thought this was a good album, or would have been if it had been released in the late '80s or early '90s. This album was plucked from its cozy time capsule and dressed up a little, but still sounds like something you'd expect from Heart, Toto, Expose or maybe Foreigner. Her cover of "Half Breed" is comparable to the Cher rendition, and there are fifteen songs that she co-wrote with Paul Sabu before she became famous. With the backing of an '80s metal band, you can feel your hair growing and your jeans turning into spandex as you go through the album, but in the present decade it just doesn't feel right. Having firmly established herself as a Country/Pop crossover diva, this album does nothing for Shania Twain musically, but is of interest as a snapshot of where she was before she got where she is now. Everything Old Is New Again,
By
This review is from: Send It With Love (Audio CD)
I've read some of the reviews about this CD and I think that some people are missing the point. This CD *is not* new. These songs are originally from 1989 and were originally on a CD/album called,
Eileen Shania Twain "The Complete Limelight Sessions." Here's the track list of that original CD. Eileen Shania Twain - The Complete Limelight Sessions 01. It's Alright (3:24) 02. Love (2:40) 03. All Fired Up, No Place To Go (3:20) 04. The Heart Is Blind (3:43) 05. For The Love (2:49) 06. Wild And Wicked (3:34) 07. I Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore (3:21) 08. Send It With Love (3:56) 09. Half Breed (2:53) 10. Hate To Love (4:02) 11. Bite My Lip (2:45) 12. Two Hearts One Love (3:44) 13. Rhythm Made Me Do It (3:52) 14. Luv Eyes (3:34) 15. Lost My Heart (4:27) 16. Don't Give Me That (3:48) 17. It's Alright (Edited Club Mix) (3:40) Now, why they felt the need to repackage this CD and try to pass it off as new is beyond me. Not a real smart marketing move in my opinion. But, just know before you spend your money on this CD that it's not the Shania Twain that you've come to know and love. Amazon.com would do right by their customers if they'd put audio sample tracks on this page so you could hear what you're getting before you buy it. This is a very early Shania Twain. Not the polished Shania of the 1990's that you're familliar with. In it's own right, it's not a bad CD. But the production and sound is very dated. So, unless you're a devoted fan who has to have all of Shania's CD's, You might choose to pass on this one.

Shania with an 80's twist,
This review is from: Send It With Love (Audio CD)
I thought that this was a great, different side of Shania's beautiful easy listening voice. No, it is not the Shania the country genere knows, but for those that love her voice and the 80's then this CD just might be for you. I thought it was refreshing to hear, even though the 80's have long since gone.

If you love Shania, you'll love this.
This is not a new album-and those who diss it are obviously writing reviews without having heard the music first. It is obvious from the first track that this is early,rock-oriented Shania, before she found her roots/voice in country/rock. If you love following the stages of an artists development, this is one for you. My only wish is that people would stop writing reviews without having heard the ______ album-great for an artist finding her way- Shania will do another great country/rock,album,once she has had the chance tto get over the mess she's been dumped in,emotionally and artisticly. Until then,be patient, and give the lady a break.

This cd is good. It is not the Shania Twain that we all know now, but it is still good. It has alot of good songs that you should hear.

My thoughts are somewhere in between those of Phil Jenkins and Amanda Richards: For someone expecting the Shania Twain we know, this was a bust. Apart from a couple of good songs - amongst those written by Shania and Paul Sabu - the rest, especially the covers, were mostly dreadful. The sole exception amongst the covers is the dance mix of "For The Love Of Him".
Perhaps this (and "Beginnings," which is essentially five eighths of the same album) should rather be punted as "Demo tapes of Teenage Hopeful Eilleen Edwards Twain". Second look: The songs on this album grow on you once you get over expecting "current" Shania. I really like it now.

Can I get my money back,
By
This review is from: Send It With Love (Audio CD)
This is at best a rip-off of the tremendous talent we have come to know as Shinia Twain, COUNTRY singer.
This music may have done well and good in it's time, but Shinia is a bonafide Country Queen now and for anyone to use her name and status to capitalize on anything but the country music star we have all come to know and love is a rip-off. Yes, this album is a rip-off as is. Were it presented as Shinia (Eileen), circa 1990, "Disco queen" It would have been a fairer description of this music then what it was. Can I get my money back? 3of4 El centro, CA.

I am really disapointed that this CD turned out to be "Hard Rock"? I guess I thought a Shania CD would be country. If I would have wanted a hard rock album, I would have ordered same. Thanks
