This is one excellent CD! Sure the band updated the song Send Me an Angel!~But its as great as the others they did! And sure they redid a bunch of other songs from the 80s from other bands songs but its still a great CD! A must have for your CD collection!

I must say I am big fan of Real Life. They were are one those under appreciated bands from the 80's. One of great things about the band from down-under is that they are still alive and kicking. They have continued to put out music over the years. The bands line-up has changed over the years, however David has always been the main vocal point of the band. Most of their material is out of print with the exception a couple of their albums. It's a shame. They have some great material. On to the review. This is a cover album of all 80's tunes. Not sure if David choose these or Cleopatra Records, they did the same with Dale Bozzio of Missing Persons fame. Though most of the songs don't stray to far from the originals. David and Company have slightly altered some, putting there own touch on the songs. Some work great and fit perfectly with David's unusual vocals. Some of the tracks that I think work well; Sweet Dreams, Cars, Fade to Grey and Blue Monday. The other tracks in my opinion are misses. All in all a decent effort. I felt is was unnecessary to include 3 mixes of Send Me and Angel. One would have been fine. But you know how the old saying goes. There is always that one song that will seal the fate of the band and they will be forever imprisoned by greedy records companies to forever sing those songs. Check out the album!!! If you are an 80's fan this will fit nicely in your collection. Just waiting for that next album of original material. Loved the last imperfection.

Lets say first, before anyone cries sell out, that Cleoparta Records was the one to commission this album from 'Real Life'.
They record so seldom, that any album they release is something to look forward too. Davids voice has never sounded better, and their are some very good tracks here #if you can block out the original recordings#- some recordings #Ultravoxs' Fade to Grey are simply wonderful-some are too identified with the originals (Tears for Fears' Shout#. But its an interesting concept, and well worth the money. A nice addition to my collection, though I'm still looking forward to an original Real Life album. |
