5.0 out of 5 stars The Manics are Back!!!
This is the best Manic Street Preachers CD in years. When they are on their game, they rock harder than any band around. Tight arrangements, loud guitars, excellent vocals, and lyrics that cut to the bone (as we have come to expect from this bunch of Welsh Rockers) makes this a must CD for fans and newcomers alike. Awesome production by Dave Eringa and tracking knobs by...

3.0 out of 5 stars Yep; They Sent the Tigers Away Alright - Bring 'em Back
A lot of reviews make it clear that people are tickled pink over this album. After about 10 runs through it, I ended up somewhere on the other side. Interestingly, many have have made mention of it being reminiscent of the Holy Bible (which is a fabulous album). I'd say this is more like the holy new testament, and they're at the crucification scene in the story where...

Awesome production by Dave Eringa and tracking knobs by Guy Massey. My favorites are the title cut, "Underdogs", "Your Love Alone Is Not Enough", "Indian Summer", "I'm Not A Patsy", and "Imperial Bodybags." James Dean Bradfield continues to astound on vocals and guitars and Nicky Wire's lyrics and Sean Moore's Moon-esque drumming deliver satisfaction throughout. The secret Bonus Track of Lennon's "Working Class Hero" is a nice touch. If you have never heard the Manics, this could be a great introduction. If you've been a long time fan like I am, this is a welcome return to their rightful place as one of the world's great rock bands.

5.0 out of 5 stars Progression and Return, September 23, 2007
This review is from: Send Away the Tigers (Audio CD)
This is a truly remarkable offering from the Manics. When I heard that this album was to be of the "return to the roots" type, I must be honest and say I had my misgivings. Somehow they have managed to continue to progress and evolve (Lifeblood, despite a few duds, has been among my favorites since it was released), while injecting some of the hard edges and rough surfaces of Everything Must Go and Gold Against the Soul. Above all, the Manics must be given credit for choosing their singles well, Autumnsong has swiftly risen to favorite status, rivaling To Repel Ghosts, If You Tolerate This..., and Roses in the Hospital in my mind. Life performance recordings that are circulating bear out the thought of a re-invigorated band, even older songs come across as more energetic and changed.

One caveat - this is a very well-produced, hi-fi album. If you're preference is low-fi you'd be better off sticking with Generation Terrorists. Nevertheless, I'm not one of those - now if only they would tour the States! Boston isn't too far to the right of Havana... Come on!

5.0 out of 5 stars More than pleasant surprise, October 27, 2009
I had heard about the Manics but never listened to their music like many people in America.
I was more than pleasantly surprised at the quality of this band, this is a stunning album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Send Away the Tigers, October 6, 2009

Send Away the Tigers is the 10th studio album for MSP and their 2007 release and recaptures a harder sound not heard on the albums prior to this one. The album received mixed reviews with Allmusic, NME and Digital Spy giving it positive reviews (4/5) whilst Rolling Stone, The Observer and The Guardian gave it 3/5. I tend to agree with the prior. I give this album 4/5 and it contains great tracks such as "Your Love Alone Is Not Enough", "Indian Summer" and "Autumnsong". The booklet is quite nice with some very nice photographs, all lyrics included but one does not get a list of whom plays what on the album. 4/5.

Good guitar-oriented, relevant songs played by a tight, focused trio.
They are not fantastic (like on "The Bible") right now but are still very relevant and very good.

A lot of reviews make it clear that people are tickled pink over this album. After about 10 runs through it, I ended up somewhere on the other side. Interestingly, many have have made mention of it being reminiscent of the Holy Bible (which is a fabulous album). I'd say this is more like the holy new testament, and they're at the crucification scene in the story where it all seems like a flop.

I'm imaging that this could be a really great album to hear live, but the recording unfortunately suffers from being way to clean and controlled. Also, JDB doesn't sound passionate so you're mostly left with reused hooks and well known riffs that have been repeated from their catalog.

"I'm just a patsy" is the only song that makes my head turn the other way. Autumnsong and Imperial Bodybags, while suffering from the same challenges as their siblings on the album are what I consider to be the highlights. As much as I like the cardigans, YLAINE should be a B-Side. I guess they had to include it since the total play time is barely more than 30 minutes with it. BOO =( *Thumbs Down*

On the whole, the album is decent (maybe 3/5), but for a 12 year fan it left me reaching for the salt.

5.0 out of 5 stars return to form, August 18, 2007

After a few uneven albums, the Manics have finally returned to the standard of "The Holy Bible" and "Everything Must Go". This is by far their most consistent record since those two-virtually all of their musical eras are represented here, from the political punk of "Imperial Bodybags" to the power-ballad "Autumnsong". This is the first time in a while that the band seems sure of themselves, and it's great to hear. This is well worth buying for anyone who's followed them over the years.

5.0 out of 5 stars THEIR BEST ALBUM IN YEARS - very satisfying, August 6, 2007
This review is from: Send Away the Tigers (Audio CD)
Just got this cd and it's taken up residence in my disc player since purchase. Bottom Line: IMO, the best Manics album in years, which is not really a slight against them, as they don't have any bum albums, but this one is a stunner - a return to their mid-90's form. Very tuneful and energetic, lots of loud guitars, most songs like 3 or 4 min long and come out swinging, and there are great riffs and catchy hooks, moreso than the recent stuff of theirs. There is some political stuff here, true to their history. My Favorite Cut: "Your Love Alone is Not Enough" featuring Nina Persson of the Cardigans. If you're not familiar with the Manics, i cannot highly recommend Holy Bible, Everything Must Go, and My Truth..... enough, for starters. Always interesting band, WAYYYYYY underappreciated here in the States, and one of the few British bands of the 90's still growing and making still-vital music (i'd add Charlatans UK to that list). In Short: a worthy addition to their catalogue, and definitely worth a listen if you're inclined to hear some 'real' music.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Album Rocks!!, September 24, 2008
This review is from: Send Away the Tigers (Audio CD)
I have only recently gotten into the MSP's. Funnily enough from hearing the track "Your Love Alone" from this album. And I loved it so much I just went mad and got 3 of their albums including this one. As I said I am new to them, so I don't know anything about their politics, in fact I don't usually like music that is too political. But this album is just full of great songs. From the title track to of course "Your Love Alone",
"Autumnsong" is a big favourite, "Indian Summer", the whole album is just great music. The sad part is, like alot of great music these days it seems to be getting no air play at all.
