5.0 out of 5 stars simply the best latin rock album of all time!, May 16, 2003

hands down, simply the best latin rock album of all time! and don't let any body tell you otherwise, starting of with the classic "entre dos tierras" a dark arrangement of metal sounding guitars, spiked with a long arena rock sounding solo via juan valdivia(guitars),the whole album is incredible, when i first listened to it i couldnt believe there was music out there like this, there is not one filler song on the whole album, it contains lyrics that, make you want to go out and punch a wall, and some that make you want to hug your girl friend, but never loosing that dark feel, simply e.bunbury(vocals, guitars) at his best, along with drummer pedro andreu and bassist joaquin cardiel, this album stands alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars The highest of rock in spanish, September 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Senderos De Traicion (Audio CD)
This is the best album that I have ever heard. "Heroes del silencio" give us the best of themselves in this album. I like every single song of this work. All of them are perfect. Their lirics give us the chance to meditate about the things of the real life. One song says "... I know that I have always been like this, that I don't have cure, and I don't wanna have it..", another one says "...I am very close to know the craziness..." I think this album is the highest expression of the rock in spanish.

5.0 out of 5 stars HDS Parasiempre, June 6, 1999
This review is from: Senderos De Traicion (Audio CD)
Unbelievable, simply unbelievable. Never before have I heard a band that puts so much effort into every song that they create. Each song on this album is a work of art. The music fits the mood of the lyrics. The lyrics are magical. The album is truly a gem.

I don't speak much Spanish. Almost all that I know I've learned by listening to HDS. I wasn't particularly interested in learning Spanish either. Yet I cannot put down this album. Or any of their other albums either (Avalancha, El Espiritu Del Vino, El Mar No Cesa, Rarezas... and Enrique Bunburry's solo album Radical Sonora.)

5.0 out of 5 stars The Crowning Glory of Rock en Espanhol, January 2, 2004

"Senderos de Traición"(Paths of Treason)by the fantastic Heroes del Silencio is a great rock album anywhere in the world.

They here provide a killer combo of all their best qualities:Enrique Bunbury's spellbinding voice is at its best and dovetails neatly with Juan Valdivia's slightly celtic influenced guitar playing creating an unquestionably original sound.

The opener"Entre dos Tierras"is possibly the best track in here with its epic scope and compelling chorus but the record doesn't flag throughout, with the high points coming one after the other.
"Maldito Duende"is a dark ballad ,unsurpassable in its appeal.
"Malas Intenciones"is where Bunbury really shines and his pronunciation of"Más de un segundo en ti"in the track's coda wins the song by itself.
"Senda"is another great track and as powerful as they ever got.
"Oración"brings back their surfacing emotions and send them to a new high.

All in all superb and possibly the best set of songs ever delivered by one of the top bands the movement of spanish sung rock has yet produced.

I first heard this group on the radio and in discotheken and parties while I was living in Germany in 1992-93. The German university students I knew all loved this group and so did I. We'd dance the night away listening to songs from this album...it totally rocks; I didn't even speak Spanish at the time but I bought the album anyway and brought it back with me to the States'... My Spanish speaking customers had never heard of them before but they always asked to see the CD case and expressed their desire to buy a copy for themselves... It is so different from the usual Latin-music you hear in Texas, plus, since these lads are from Spain, they sing with their distinctive castillian lisp. Now that I have started learning Spanish myself and speak it moderately well, I really appreciate the songs even more...since I can sing along now and actually understand what I'm saying. The album is fantastic, regardless if you speak the language or not. Good solid rock music that crosses all borders.

5.0 out of 5 stars ROCK'N'ROLL MASTERPIECE!, April 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Senderos De Traicion (Audio CD)
My friend has sent me a tape with one of their songs - Entre Dos Tierras. I was a fan of this group since the moment I heard the beginning of the tune. It was so REFRESHING and EXCITING. Few months later, I got this album, and I can say that the rest of the material is equally brilliant. I even started studying spanish because of them! Heroes had (I say - had, because unfortunatelly, they split up) everything a great rock'n'roll band should have: passion, power, and originality. Unlike their later albums, there isn't much distortion on this one, but neverthless, it doesn't lack the power and excitement. EVERY song is a gem, but if I had to extract something, it would be Entre Dos Tierras, Maldito Duende and Con Nombre De Guerra. I work as a radio DJ, and I have heard thousands of records, but Senderos De Traicion stands on the top of my all-time-favourites chart.

4.0 out of 5 stars The begining of something BIG., April 13, 1999

It was at the shore of this decade that well known guitarist/producer Phil Manzanera decided to give these four kids from Zaragoza, Spain a shot at the music world. What developed from that coalition was the birth of a legendary Rock & Roll band. With this album (and the follow up -customary- Live version "Senda 91") they quickly broke into the European and Latin markets with songs like "Entre dos tierras" ("Between two lands"), "Oracion" ("Prayer"), "Decadencia" ("Decadence") among other very well written & performed songs including the re-release of "Heroe de Leyenda" ("Hero of Legend") the band's first Hit Single from the premature -and their first- Album "El Mar no Cesa" ("The Sea doesn't cease"). It was a very rithmical demostration of inmense potential that would later place them on a pedestal of what many call 'The greatest Rock & Espanol Band ever'. This is a CD you might as well get now, because if not, after listening to their later work; you eventually will.

5.0 out of 5 stars Un duende te invita a sonar... invites you to dream, July 2, 2004
This review is from: Senderos De Traicion (Audio CD)
Probably my best rock album of all times!

I wouldn't say, like the other reviewers, that it's just the best in Spanish or Mediterranean rock, I would say it stands up there among the best at world level.

Now, I understand the success and position of 'the greats', such as Iron Maiden, Skid Row (well some of), Wasp, Texas, D.A.D and Vixen, and I really like them a lot too. But I can't see why just because Heroes sing in (beautiful) spanish, they don't seem to me to be getting quite all the recognition they should and are hard to find in most shops, at least in Europe.
(All the lyrics are included in the insert, so - if that's the problem - go ahead : get yourself a translation somewhere, and don't let the words stop you from getting some of the best rock music and most magnicient vocals around!).

Even so, in the 90's they were regularly broadcasting their beautiful clips (do try and find "Maldito Duende" 's!) on MTV's Headbangers' Ball (don't know about nowadays, as I don't have MTV anymore).

By the way, there's nothing latin about either their music or the band, as one reviewer's title implied - they're from Spain, Europe.

The category is Hard Rock / Metal, and subcategory is melodic hard rock. Sometimes explosive, always powerful, full of punch, it is also always highly melodic and harmonious, never discordant or unbalanced, nor like " a weight on your nerves".
I have to repeat that the vocals are incredible, almost unmatched for richness and modulations combined with power. The instrumentation does them justice. What a bunch of well matching talented artists.

Senderos de Traicion is one of the last albums that I've bought from Heroes. I like all of their music and albums very much, I listen to them 24-7, specially at night when all the world is asleep exept for me and the silence that overcomes my dark and cold room. But this album has to be one of my favorites because almost all of their songs are based on a true story, which is mine. Because behind all of their music, lyrics, and mastery of poetry, their is an involvment with darkness, loneliness, fear, love, and most of all drug addiction which takes you far away to a lost destiny, (Heroe De Leyenda, Hechiso, La Carta, and all the rest. "Heroes Del Silencio is the best spanish rock band ever worldwide". Y Para Siempre.
