This review is from: Sendstation PocketDock Combo USB & FireWire (Electronics)
There was a time, back in the day, when the Sendstation PocketDock was an indispensable part of the average freelance Mac tech's toolkit. It was a small, versatile and virtually indestructible adapter that I'd use everyday (back then I used a iPod mini as my bootable tools drive). Unfortunately this product line has not matured much since then.

The FireWire connection no longer works for data transfer for any of the current iPods (the iPod Touch / iPhone won't even accept a charge via FireWire anymore), and none of the current Macs (save for the MacBook) still ship a 6-pin FireWire 400 port anymore, either. This renders the FireWire port essentially useless.

The USB port on this antique is the full sized USB-B connector. Pretty much the only devices that still use that cable are printers and full sized desktop external drives. Most other devices -- especially portable devices -- have moved to mini-USB or even micro-USB devices. Which means if you are going to use this adapter, you'll be carrying around an extra full-sized USB (A to B) cable, just for it. At which point, what is the benefit of this adapter? You might as well carry the cable that came with your iPod/iPhone or one of the plethora of third party dock adapter cables.

Speaking of third party cables,[...] It does exactly what I need -- syncs my iPhone on the go -- and fits in my kit of adapters without any tangled cords.
