Format: Paperback
This is an excellent presentation of the historical context, thematic content, and theatrical structure of Thyestes. Davis is careful to cover contentious topics with measured hesitation. One never receives the impression that Senecan studies are a settled affair, which they are not. I look forward to reading the Duckword Companion to the Phaedra, which I hope will contain the same sort of analysis. If I have one complaint, it is the extensive consideration of Senecan themes in later European drama, though I see this is meant for the dramaturge, not the classicist.
