The first page made me want to read on as the author describes a 'griot' (storyteller) telling of the 'great Ghana and Mali empires, of gold and wealth, of kings and slaves and religious leaders called marabouts, of Wolof warriors and national heroes...and ancient myths about owls and ants and about spirits...' It's all here along with lots of color photos
