5.0 out of 5 stars A book of fun and mental exercise for seniors.
My mom (in her 70's) got a kick out of working through the problem-solving challenges of these puzzles but, more than that, she enjoyed seeing the familiar clothing styles, car models, and old appliances depicted with accurate, coloringbook-style scenes of places and every-day items right out of her own past. 1.0 out of 5 stars Not for seniors!
I should have read these reviews before I purchased this book. I can't believe they say it's a book for seniors. My mother is 82 and was very insulated when she looked through this book. She finished it in 15 minutes!!!!

The puzzles in this book are very simple and easy. Recommended for a senior who has lost some of their mental capacity, or perhaps for a senior who wants to "solve" puzzles together with young grandchildren or great grandchildren. The drawings (sketches) in the book are scenes for the 1950s.

5.0 out of 5 stars Joy!, October 11, 2007
This review is from: Senior Smart Puzzles (Paperback)
Mother is 94 and resides with my wife and I. We enjoy watching her as she works her way through Lindy McClean's Senior Smart Puzzles book. Mother displays a joy and a happy expression whenever she opens the book and then proudly announces her achievements on each page. As a resident caregiver for my mother I know that it is very important to keep her happy, and with such healthy entertainment like McClean's book on hand I realize there is more than the Hallmark TV channel and a Papillon puppy to entertain Mother!

I purchased this for my Mom who has dementia, and she loved it. It is a great book for the elders. I am now going to buy the second book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enthusiastically recommended as a stimulating tool for senior centers., December 2, 2007
This review is from: Senior Smart Puzzles (Paperback)
Senior Smart Puzzles: Mazes, Hidden Objects, Same/Different Puzzles is a black-and-white, consumable activity book designed especially for seniors, ideal for stimulating thought, conversation, and memories. The mostly visual puzzles include mazes, hidden object finds, and uncovering the differences between seemingly identical pictures. All the puzzles are fairly simple and suitable for children as well, though the chosen imagery is especially designed to appeal to the elder population - adult individuals and families at work, at play, or doing routine things around the home. Visual solutions are listed in the back. Enthusiastically recommended as a stimulating tool for senior centers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smart stuff!, October 15, 2007
This review is from: Senior Smart Puzzles (Paperback)
There have long been puzzle books out for children, but this book is really designed for older people. The illustrations are terrific - they remind me a lot of photos from Reminisce magazine. I'm definitely going to be spreading the word about this book!

but this sounds like an extremely good book for seniors who are dealing with dementia and/or Alzheimers. My granny is 105 and she lives with my husband and myself. I am hoping this book, along with some block puzzles I have ordered will stimulate her mind and will be something we can do together. I read one review that said the book is too "childish" and that she does not believe seniors are that "unintelligent." That is not the issue, some seniors have lost so much cognitive thinking that these "simple" things are very good for keeping their mind active and be nmore stimulated and interactive than just watching TV. My husband noticed that I have not been spending as much time with my granny as I used to, even though she lives with us. I wasn't aware, but it is emotionally hard when she barely talks unless you ask her questions and she just sits and watches television. She does enjoy sitting on the porch and watching the neighborhood children come home from school. These books and puzzles will be something we can do to interact together. I haven't seen the books yet, just ordered them yesterday, but I am looking forwarded to having them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Alzheimer's & Dementia Seniors, November 22, 2010

My mother with late stage Alzheimer's loved this book! She couldn't complete the puzzles by the time she got it, but she liked flipping through the pages and looking at the pictures. I agree that most adults in their right mind wouldn't be much interested in puzzles like these. But, for dementia patients, it is a great way to keep their interest and work their minds. This book would be wonderful for early to mid-stage Alzheimer's patients most of whom will be able to complete these puzzles.

Given to my 84 year old father as a gift. He enjoys doing the puzzles but finds them a little easy, not too bad though.
