Product Description

Engineered for women, the CX 281 delivers slamming bass with a custom fit that feels and looks natural with any style. Each headphone features a totally unique gold accent design that is different from every other CX 281. These ear-canal, noise-isolating 'phones use a dynamic speaker for deep, tight bass. If you need to travel light, they include a carrying case that will hold the headphones in addition to the latest generation of iPod Nano media players. Even better, you can keep the player in your pocket and still control playback volume with the included in-line adjuster. Total control.

I don't know why these headphones have been labelled as Women's earbuds. I bought a pair from a Virgin Megastore, and they were worth every damn penny. The sexy maroon color is flawless, a high bass for perfect euro-techno tunes, and also an extremely clear sound for those Third Eye Blind fans. It comes with a nice headphone splitter and a sleek leathery case. The noise-isolation is a perfect balance, enough that you don't hear the newly-weds upstairs, but comfy enough that you can wear it for hours and your ears get air-circulation as well.

Crisp, clear, precise sound sound, great bass reproduction for earbuds, and a sturdy construction for a reasonable price... if you're still using the earbuds/headphones that came with your iPod or MP3 player, do yourself a favor and try a pair of these ones.

The volume control is well-placed, even across the channels, and not staticy. Unfortunately, it does add a bit of weight, and it might be nice if the headphones came with some sort of small clip to attach the volume control to your shirt (for me, they're fine without it, and I'm not sure if I'd bother using one if one were included).

As these are in-ear earbuds, be aware that if you let the headphone wire swing freely (e.g. when jogging), you'll hear a bit of drumming/thumping, as the wires tend to conduct physical vibrations.

My first pair stood up fine to being balled up in my pocket (they come with a nice little pouch to store them in, which I never use), dropped from 4-6ft onto pavement, light exposure to water/rain, but running them over with your car will definitely kill them (don't ask how I know...)

The build quality is pretty good but will have to see whether they will stand the test of time. The cable material is a bit better than your standard black rubber shielding.

I am not an audiophile so I found the sound quality very good. Distortion is very low and the bass is great for such small earphones. But the sound quality depends a lot on the fit, they sound amazing when you can find the perfect snug fit. I used the small ear adapters.

UPDATE (19 Jan 2012): Used the medium sized ear adapters, they felt uncomfortable at first but have got used to them now. They sound even better than before because of the better noise isolation. Build quality feels pretty German to me now :D
Have used them pretty roughly recently, stepped on the wires a few times, got sandwiched in my bag between heavy books etc.
Feels like 30$ well spent !!

UPDATE (21 Jul 2013): Bumping the rating to 5 stars since I thought it was unfair to keep it at 4. It has been more than 1 1/2 years since I bought these and they are working perfectly fine. The pouch supplied with it comes in handy for keeping them in good shape.

After going through a handful of ipod earbuds and skull candy smokin buds, I stumbled upon these gorgeous earbuds from Sennheiser. The price is great, design is sleek and stylish, and the volume control dial is awesome.

However, I waited for a month break these in, but they never did. The base was nowhere nearly as powerful as my old smokin buds and the sound is only crisp and clear when you increase the volume. Sound quality-wise these are only 2 steps at most above the earphones that come with your ipod, sorry to say.

I really wanted to love these but unfortunately I'm not too impressed. Most of my love for these earphones come from its aesthetics and the cable being sturdier than your standard in-ear ear phones.

Perhaps it's because I don't take very good care of my audio accessories, but mine are wearing out after 15 months.

Hello- Thanks for your feedback. It sounds like you may not have the ideal size ear adapter on your earbuds. Try a larger or smaller one to get a better seal. As with any in-ear canal headphone (no matter the brand or quality), the best sound will occur with a nice seal.

I loved these headphones for the three days that I had them before I lost them on a bus. I had only used crappy ipod headphones before so these were heaven in my ears. Unfortunately I have ridiculously small ear canals so it did hurt. I would not recommend them if you do have really small ear canals as these will really hurt over time; even with the smallest size they offer.

This is my favorite portable earbuds headphone that I like to use often. It is comfortable in my ear, sound great for the money and I hope you'll never do what I did; I accidentally washed it in washing machine when I forgot to take it out of my dirty jacket.

I groaned when I realized what I did but hoping for the best, I let it dry out for a day and then tried using on my MP3 player and surprise, it played fine. I really thought dunking in water would have shorted the speaker but it did not.

Perhaps I was lucky but I'm not arguing and I plan not to wash it again.

Just got these in the mail today. I listen to songs with a lot of bass, and so far so good. I was also looking for a pair of in-ear headphones that were comfortable. These feel excellent. I wouldn't worry about them being too small, there are two other earpiece sizes to choose from. As for someone looking for a really small pair, there's a super small fitting too. The style of these is slick, and it comes with nice carrying case for the headphones and an iPod nano.

I've never been a connoisseur of headphones and the like. As long as they worked and I could hear what I was listening to clearly, I was happy. For the first time I feel like I should say something about a product. These Sennheiser Earbuds are absolutely wonderful. They come with several different size earbud adapters with the medium size ones already attached. I didn't even have to change them, they fit perfectly. I like to listen to non-english music and until I listened to the music with these earbuds, I didn't know what I was missing. The enunciation of the singer is so much clearer then before. I would definitely recommend these to anyone who asked me.
