Awesome sound bass.

I initially thought that by paying this much I'd get a quality product, but I couldn't have been more wrong.

I purchased these headphones to listen to at work, on the subway, while traveling, etc. I listen to my Droid phone and my iPad, and the sound quality is adequate. There's more bass than those white things that come with iPods, but not really a lot more, and the sound is certainly more balanced and less tinny. I really wish I had spent more for better sound, but that's just me, and I don't really think the sound quality was out of line with the price (I paid around $50).

I also like how they fit in the ears (I use the larger plugs). They can be pushed in very snugly to provide isolation from almost all surrounding noise, or if I'm at work and want to hear a bit of what's happening around me, I can push them in a little less. Fine.

The build quality, however, is poor. I take very good care of these headphones, and always keep them in their pouch in my backpack when I'm not listening to them. After about six months of use, the rubber 90-degree-angle mini-jack tore inside, leaving the metal jack itself disjoint from the heavy piece of rubber that makes the angle. I can still hear the sound, but now it can cut in and out when the jack gets jostled. Its days are very limited.

An affordable upgrade to the earbuds that come with an ipod. These come with lots of soft rubber adapters to make the proper fit inside your ear. The volume slider is a great feature for situations where the player is in a pocket or jacket and you need to adjust the volume for some reason. The only part of the design that is weak is the right-angle plug. Be sure to grip the plug as close to its end as possible (the part closest to the ipod) when you remove the plug from the ipod. If you grab the right angle section and use it to unplug the earbuds from the ipod on a regular basis, eventually the metal plug that connects inside the ipod will separate from the plastic right-angle housing. I broke my first pair that way but like the product so much I bought a new pair.

While not the best earbuds money can buy, these are lovely earbuds for the $40 range. I've bought two pairs for myself.

Build:
The first lasted a year and three months and the second pair lasted a year and a half of daily use and abuse. I was not particularly careful with these earbuds (shoved them in a pocket of my bag and left plugged in, or falling asleep with them in) and had I cared for them better, I'm sure they would have lasted at least two full years.

Comfort:
The tips for the earbuds stay on well and fit my ears wonderfully. (I used the medium sized double flange tip, the the wide variety of tip that come with up the chances of finding a pair of tips that suit your needs.) I could easily wear these earbuds for three or four hours, but eventually they caused a little pressure which became uncomfortable with very extended listening.

Sound:
While these will not completely blow you away, the sound quality is definitely in line with the price, and was a great value when I bought my first pair for $27. They are immeasurably better than the horrible things that come with iPods, and have better balance than even the Apple in-ear headphones which go for $70. They have reasonable bass and good balance and can take a good amount of volume before you notice any sound distortion.

Overall:
For me personally, these are not my go-to acoustic heaven headphones, but they are nice sturdy things which are at a price point that I'm not afraid to abuse them. They have good sound and build quality for their price point, and I highly suggest them for someone looking for under $50 earbuds.

After two to three months of use the right speaker died. And I didn't even use it that much.
Not Okay!

Bought these over a year ago to wear while working as a remodeling contractor rather than my expensive Etymotic Research ER4P. They don't miss a beat! Excellent seal via the various size tips supplied. Shirt clip to keep the works from slipping off. And stronger bass than the good phones. The cord is a little long but the in-line plug has saved them from being ripped apart when the cord catches on some protrusion. Sound is quite satisfactory for both the books I listen to as well as the wide gamut of music I love.
What more can one want? Oh yeah a very decent price. Good value for the money!

Being a decades long customer of Sennheiser headphones, I decided to buy the CX400-II when I needed a pair of ear-canal earphones. Sadly I bitterly regret buying this product. From an audio standpoint, the earphones are certainly good. The drivers produce a good balance of bass and treble, and the clarity of sound is satisfying.

However the earphones have inherent design problems, with the main ones being that they are noisy and the earbuds are poor. I have tried using every single earbud provided and none fit well. After a short walk, they always feel like they are falling out. And this is even when the clip is used. Every few metres, I have to push the earphones back into place. Even then, this is something I can live with, albeit a real inconvenience.

What I cannot live with is the knocking noise (as though something is loose within the earphones) whenever I walk or run. Every step is echoed with a thud. Every movement is accompanied by a knock or thud! So unless I sit absolutely still, and I mean absolutely still, the noise is heard. I have tried everything including taping the earphones on my ears. Through a process of elimination, I have no doubt that the noise is from the ear pieces.

This product is supposed to be noise-isolating earphones. It seems to do this job reasonably well, when the earbuds are freshly in place. What is does not do is isolate noise produced by itself !!

I have had a few active and passive, noise-cancelling and noise-isolating earphones. This one is undoubtedly the worst. I cannot return to the retailer as the package is open and long since been thrown out. Not sure how long my patience will last, but I have no doubt in my mind that it is destined for the trash bin.

If there is any way to select zero stars, I would have done so.
