Awesome best describes these earbuds. When I first listened to my itunes through them I immediately started hearing sounds in tracks that I did not hear before. The bass is unbelievable for the size, not overpowering but just enough punch. The rest of the spectrum is crisp and clear. I originally bought these exclusively to work out on the treadmill/elliptical. Great motivator. The sound was almost as if I was at home rocking to my stereo. At home I only use my Dr Dre headphones now if the house is extremely noisy. Not to undertstate the noise canceling ability of the earbuds. For the money you can't go wrong with these babies. I had them for about a year now and I would recommend these to anyone looking for great sound at a reasonable price.

I am an average earphones user, I normally just use these on my morning commute, listening to my ipod and while watching video, so I think if you're an average user like myself, these are great. Not sure for the avid audiophiles or gymmers though.

The sound for these were way better than my old CX 281 pair, which were only a step or two above the buds that come with your ipod. The CX 280 has good sound quality, just enough bass, and is excellent with video sound.

The price was just right and the buds fit well. There are issues with construction though; the wires that go directly from the buds are very thin and delicate and prone to tangling. The buds themselves are hard to differentiate from left and right unless you look very closely, the perfect sphere shape for the buds also give them a cheap, kiddish look, and there is no detail on the volume control so it feels clumsy at times.

All in all, good replacement pair but nothing I would totally rave about.

I've bought 3 Sennheiser earbuds over the years, this set being the newest purchase May 2013. It's now July 2013 and they no longer work. I use these at work at a desk so they are not abused in any way. The problem became the right earbud. It separated (the buds are in 2 pieces held together by? where the internal wiring is located). I could snap them back together but after a time or two of doing that, it just stopped working. All the wires are still in place and I've never touched them so I'm not sure why they stopped working exactly.

Things I loved: The volume control on the cord, the ear fit, outside noise blocking
Things I didn't love: When walking with them in, there was noise from the cord coming through the earbuds.

Needless to say I'm disappointed. I think I'll look for another brand to see if they can last longer than 3 months.

First of all, BURN THEM IN. For those of you that don't know, burning in headphones is an absolute must when purchased new. 20 hours of pink noise (download a free signal generator online that will take do this) These were the first headphones I'd purchased since I learned about that, and it makes a HUGE difference. They were incredibly muddy, like there was a high pass filter on them, but they cleaned up great.

Sound:

For the price, these head phones are real remarkable. Great bass response, exaggerated a bit. Those of you that don't like bass-heavy music should problem find another set. Not the clearest sound in the world, even after burning them in, and I would never use them for mixing tracks and testing levels. But for tracking bass (bass's sound real tight and clean), and especially for listening on the go, they work great, esp. for bass heavy music. They cancel out outside sounds well (as most in-ear earphones do.)

Feel:

I have had bad experiences with in-ear earphones in the past, namely ones by Apple and Shure, and I swore off them. But then I got these as a gift from a family friend, and they fit very nicely. I will use them walking and at the gym for sure.
Fit:

Cons:

Not the clearest sound in the world, but they do just fine.

These headphones are amazing but I don't know if mine are defective or not as the wire picks up SO much noise when moving. Don't buy this if you want to move. Ever.

I'd like to know what earphones the other reviewers were listening too... Forgive me, but regardless of what music... symphonic or hard rock, I should NOT being hearing the cord noise... As I'm typing this review, I'm listening to the music. EVERY turn of my head, every rustle on my shirt gets picked up LOUD AND CLEAR... No wonder these are on sale... and I wouldn't buy another pair of these even at another 98% discount... NOW, if I'm perfectly still, amazing, out of the box... just don't move... or shuffle, or tap to the beat... or breathe... all of that gets picked up...

I love Sennheiser, that being said, this is the first out of dozens, maybe even hundreds of headphones that I've used/owned/edited with that I absolutely wouldn't recommend at this price... Go buy a pair of Sony's at the check out counter for this price, you will be happier.

I already own a pair of CX150s and a pair of CX300s. Both are excellent, but I wanted a third pair just in case. Enter the CX280s

Pros:
- Sennheiser quality and sound; clear mids and highs with good bass
- Three different sized bud adapters for a tighter fit
- In-line volume adjustment is sleek (almost too much so)
- Built-In cable slider is a nice touch
- Included soft case is large enough to hold my ZUNE HD
- Symmetrical cable
Cons:
- The cable(s) is constructed of the same uber-grippy rubber that plague other Sennheisers; it snags on everything
- Left and Right buds are hard to identify in low light
