Featuring exquisite metal-crafted stainless steel design elements, the CX 980 also offers a variety of finely tuned ergonomic design elements, including a rotating headphone plug that lets you choose a straight pin or 90 degree angle.

The large selection of seven adapters not only allows the earphones to be adapted perfectly to every ear size, it also enables you to change the sound image according to their preferences--depending on whether you prefer a bass-focused, bass-intensive, or fully balanced sound. They also block ambient noise so you can hear the intricacies of your music.

The included in-flight adapter allows you to tap into the latest movie with the same headphone, and switch back to your MP3 player or mobile with ease. When your MP3 player is out of reach, the in-line volume adjuster provides you with the control you demand.

I have a pair of Bose OE, Sennheiser HD 380 Pro's, and Klipsch X10 earbuds. I had several sets for several different purposes and then read about these and figured I would try them and still end up thinking I'd need to keep a few different sets, but I was wrong. The Sennheiser CX980's are amazing. They sound amazingly clear, have an excellent range, and build quality is top notch. I do wish the cord had a fabric wrap, or something similar to protect it a little better like some other earbuds and headphones I have seen, but even with the rubber cord, it seems a lot better than most and will hold up well. Compared to the Bose and Klipsch, it was very sad. I thought they sounded good before, but the CX980's made them sound dull, and distorted. The only set that came close to comparison were the HD 380 Pro's which sound amazing still, but are bulky, and don't seem to have quite the range as the earbuds do. It feels that after a few minutes of wear, I don't feel them anymore, and completely forget I am wearing them. They actually make an environment which is a strange feeling from a set of earbuds. The Klipsch piped the sound into your ear canal, where the CX980's create more of an environment like the HD 380 Pro's do.

Short story - I will be selling my Bose OE, Sennheiser HD 380 Pro's, and Klipsch X10's for these Sennheiser CX980's. I am very impressed.

Pros: Comfort, clarity, range, volume control, high quality build, well built and nice carrying case, airline adapter.

Cons: It seems the earbuds like most others can fall out or become loose a bit as you turn your head.

Recently (as in last month), bought a pair of HifimAn RE-0's and they were awesome headphones, extremely well built and extremely clear. Unfortunately, they lack any kind of oomph when it comes to bass. Gave them to my daughter and went searching for a new pair. So lo and behold these things went on sale for a flash deal and I got them for $125. Here is my review:

Lots of stuff- Comes with all kinds of extra stuff, a box for traveling, a pouch full of buds, airplane adapter.

Stylish-Pretty nice looking headphones

Sound- Not quite as clear on the high end, as the hifiman's, but holy moly that low end is crazy. I am not sure how technically correct it is to have bass like this (might not be tight enough for some), but it is nice and deep and has a nice "punchy" feel to it.

Nice touches in construction- Read a reviewer who said they fall out of his ears, I have freakishly small ear canals and these things fit just fine and don't fall out of my ears ever. Very comfortable, not saying he is wrong just saying his experience isn't universal.. I dig the volume slider and the swivel headphone jack as well.

Bass might be too much for some, highs are very clear but not as clear as I think they should be at this price point.

Overall they are the best sounding headphones I have ever owned, and if I hadn't known how clear highs could be (from just having those extremely clear hifiman RE-0s) I would have given these 5 stars. As it is I feel that the bass makes up for the slightly muted high end, and would heartily recommend these to anyone who likes some kickin bass in their music.

EDIT: The right ear bud blew out, so now the sound is distorted really bad and this is less than a year old. Never went higher than max volume on a iphone 4s. Really dissapointed. Going to see if I can get a replacement, wish me luck

These are excellent earbuds. The sound is open, spacious, clear, and pleasant. I have listened to music for hours on these, and my ears don't get tired at all. Here's what I like and don't like.

The sound is open, with sparkling high frequencies and tight, precise lows. The highs sparkle so much that some listeners might think that the sound is too bright. I'm pretty happy with it. The midrange is clear, voices very easy to understand. The lows are not at all boomy, and not as powerful as earbuds that advertise things like "deep powerful bass." But the bass is solid, and for music that has lots of bass energy, these earbuds let it all come through. Overall I think the sound is very accurate, uncolored, and not at all leading to ear-fatigue. I'm very, very pleased with the sound. Pretty sweet.

The product packaging is pretty silly. It's completely overdesigned, with an outer box that separates to allow you to get to an inner tray. I puzzled over the package for about 3 minutes trying to figure out how to get into it, before I discovered a diagram on the side panel of the box. After I successfully extricated the earbuds ...

The plug has a novel oversized swivel that allows it to attach either straight or at right angles to your sound source. It's clever, but I prefer plugs that are visibly more protective of the cord. There's no bendy thing where the cord joins the oversized plug, so I'm concerned that over time the wire might break at the join. We'll see. Whether the swivel is straight or right angled, it's a large plug that I think might be uncomfortably large with some phones or MP3 players. I'm using it with a laptop computer, and it sometimes gets in the way a bit.

In the middle of the cable is a volume control barrel.
