As far as build quality?

I also own a pair of Pioneer HDJ-2000's and these i would say offer about the same quality of sound, very well balanced and great imaging.

This led to loss of sound, and of iPhone microphone/volume control interruptions.

If you have an iPhone or iPad this product is amazing. I have a music / sound engineering background and bang for the buck those headphone are awesome - I didn't realize that this product was geared for iPhone / iPad devices so when I tried the microphone functionality on my android phone the mic did not work. However, my I gave it to my new sister-in-law and she loves it. Shes a big music person and noise blocking aspect of the headphones is really good according to her. So if you have an iPhone or iPad or just want to use the device for listening to music then there is no doubt you should get this item. If you have an android phone and want to use the mic feature do not get this item and do more research.

I have previously owned a set of Sennheiser CX-300II's and going from those IEM to these CX880i, is a night and day difference. I am an audiophile and for this price range Sennheiser really has a winning product. I also own a pair of Pioneer HDJ-2000's and these i would say offer about the same quality of sound, very well balanced and great imaging. If you are looking for a stylish, audiophile quality pair of headphones then you will not be disappointed by these headphones. they are a great buy!

Once upon a time I had Sennheiser earphones and pretty much nothing else. I went two years using the CX300II's and then bought the CX310's. Then I purchased the Ultimate Ears 500, 700, and TF 10's. Then I decided I wanted a new Sennheiser product in my collection. I looked at the IE8's and 80's, but those have yet to float down to the $125.00 I paid for my UE TF 10's, so until I get that type of deal on either of those IEM's, I pulled the trigger in the CX 880's, since they normally list for $150.00, and were on sale on Amazon for about $50.00. I read mixed reviews, though mostly the majority of reviews on sound were solid if not spectacular. It's the build quality that took a huge hit in the community. When they finally arrived, I anxiously opened the box and got my hands on these. I plugged them in, no burn in time, straight out of the box, into my Sansa Fuze with my Fiio amp. The match was a no go. They simply did not sound very good on the Fuze. The problem being that on the Fuze, the mids were recessed. i mean VERY recessed. So i decided to plug them directly into my ipod. Ok. Better. The mids were now balanced along with the lows and highs. So it has to do more with the way the 880's interract with the Fuze. I then preceeded to go with a 6 hour burn in with pink/white noise and sweeps. I took the 880's and put them through my amp using my rockbox'd sansa clip zip. The sound coming from the clip was GORGEOUS! The highs are so CRISP and CLEAN! There's roll off, but the sparkle on the highs is simply impressive, and made the more impressive because the lows match the highs with fullness and boom without bleed or muddiness. The mids are natural and vocals really shine. There is just terrific clarity and balance through the entire frequency range.Read more ›

Excellent response on high and ultra bass sounds. If you like jazz, drum and bass, electronic music, and deep sounds this is your sennheiser.

These are the best headphones I've owned. I had an expensive pair of Shure but these have a much better sound and they fit well in my ears.

I was looking for a higher quality in-the-ear headphone solution, and a set of Sennheiser CX-680-i's were on sale over at Newegg. They were competitively priced (or so I thought, until I came over to Amazon). A couple of my co-workers are big fans of Sennheiser, so I thought I'd give 'em a try. I found the CX-880-I's to be in my price range, read the customer reviews, and hit the 'ol "TAKE MY MONEY" button.

A week later, they arrived, along with my Creative X-Fi Go! USB Sound card. Set everything up, and played with the three different seal options that came with the headphones. I found the medium set to be perfect (I must be average, ear-wise). As other reviewers stated, MAKE SURE YOU GET THE RIGHT FIT! I then proceeded to play multiple songs of differing qualities, and noticed a low-level whine. Turning up Windows 7's bit-rate, and using the "Optimize for Headphone" options available fixed this.

The good stuff:
They sound amazing, with terrific clarity. You will hear things in your songs that you didn't know were there, if you were using crap-quality headphones before.

The construction is sturdy, with no quality defects or imperfections that I can notice so far. The placement of all features seems to be in an optimal position.

The packaging came with a considerately optional clip for mounting these bad boys to your shirt or shorts or whatever your thing is.

The bad:
Not really anything to mention here, other than I was inattentive and got the i-Device compatible version, even though I own no Apple products.

I really enjoyed using these earphones until up about a couple weeks ago. I had purchased these earphones in March and the sound quality was brilliant, the microphone version really helped me at the time as I was learning a language through the software Rosetta Stone on my Ipod Touch, but unfortunately audio playback in the left ear phone stopped working after 5 months, then eventually a week later the right earphone stopped working.

I'm quite disappointed considering the price I have paid for these ear phones, I thought for sure it would have a much more longer survivability than 5 months.
