Beware, i bought mine from amazon and they were fakes. I have an authentic pair in black and i thought i'd buy an extra set in white. The cosmetic differences are pretty noticeable and the sound quality is terrible. i got them for only $24 so returning is not really worth it. I was aware of these counterfeits, but i didn't think amazon would be selling them.

After reading some reviews, I was excited to purchase these headphones because they sounded like a reasonable bargain. Unfortunately, they've proven to be quite disappointing.

The build quality is alright: the wire is light and soft and the drivers are soft too though I really can't get them to stay far enough into my ear to isolate and deliver the most sound they have to offer. Also, the wire is a bit too short for me: I can't put my player in my pocket and have the earbuds remain in my ears because there isn't enough chord and the earbuds get pulled out of my ears as soon as I move (I'm 6'2" and this is a pretty common problem with earbuds for me.)

The big disappointment was the sound quality. Bass was almost completely absent; there was only a tiny bit of impact but even that was minimal and the driver had to be quite far into the ear to hear it. I don't expect much from earbuds, given how small the drivers in them are, but these are far and away the least responsive on the low end that I've heard in quite some time. There's plenty of clear high and mid range sound there but it just didn't sound balanced at all to me and the highs sounded a bit more synthetic than say, the standard Apple iPod headphones.

I couldn't spend any significant time listening to the headphones, despite an effort to listen to them for an hour or two: after that, I was done.

Even my fiancee, who is typically pretty easy to satisfy with headphones, refuses to use them.

I like these headphones.

First though, beware of fake CX300's out there. It seems that the market is full of Chinese counterfeits of this headphone. Price is probably your first indicator of a fake. If it's selling new for less than $30, it's probably a fake. There are many web sites dedicated to exposing the fakes ones vs. real ones... search the web for "CX300 fake."

That said, the pair I bought here from Amazon are the real thing, and they do sound good. You just need to put on the right sized rubber tip on for your ears. I use the medium size. The way to know the right size is to push them into your ear canal until the sound starts to become muted (because it's hitting the end of the canal). Then back it out just a little bit and it should stay in there. That's the position where you get the best bass response. The small size tip kept sliding out and the large one would not go in far enough.

One other tip... as of right now, the white and silver colors are about $10-$15 less than the black. Same headphones, different color... save yourself some money and buy the white or silver. Who cares what color they are?

That's it. Other than that, I agree with most of the rest of the reviews -- the sound is excellent for the price, they fit inside my motorcycle helmet and stay in my ears. The cord is long enough to have the MP3 player in your pants or jacket pocket. What more do you want?

Sound:
Great sound. Comes through clear and vivid. The bass is substantially higher then any headphones of this size, and it manages to blend with the rest of the music so as not to interfere. Bass doesn't hurt your ears either.

Design:
The design is really well thought out, as simple as it may be. I'm 5'7'' (hope I'm not mixing up the symbols there) and the headphones have just enough length to allow me to move freely and not have excessive cord hanging in front of my torso. The right headphone goes around the back of the neck so there is nothing rocking in front. The buds it comes with (the little white heads) can fit any ear and it's likely that more than one of the three (if not all) will fit anybody allowing a choice between which feels more appropriate. The buds themselves fit firmly onto the headphones allowing easy interchangeability while maintaining reliability (so you won't have to worry about whether the buds will come off in your pocket or not).

Comfort:
This is the most important aspect and the one which it prevails in, once you fit them into your ear. They aren't difficult to put in but can cause a temporary feeling of discomfort from the block of air if you push too hard. This happens because they block sound from going into your ear, which causes any sound within that vacuum to be amplified greatly. This isn't too big of an issue though, and happened to me only because I wanted COMPLETE isolation from external sound. They are not meant to simulate deafness (when no music is playing) but they sure do a pretty good job of it. I have to remove them in order to listen to someone speak to me without them having to speak loudly (without music playing, so if you have music playing don't expect to hear anything else).

Purchased from "Deals on Wheels". the package were sealed and stated that is was "Made in China". Genuine Sennheiser Products are manufactured in the US or Germany. Not China. The earbuds were the best fakes of these that I have seen. The various guides for buying Genuine CX300's have not been updated for these newer fakes. They look 100% Genuine except that it is made in china and the metal band is not attached properly on the earpiece.seller got a 3 because the sound quality was decent for $26.64. the metal band looks 100% genuine except for the fact that there is a gap between the band and the plastic.the mesh looks genuine also. the cord material and rubber connector looked and felt Genuine also. The part that annoyed me to most was that the left earpiece makes a plastic crunching sound when fitting them in your ear. That was a dead giveaway that these were fakes. another giveaway sign is the band that i talked about earlier.the Genuine earpiece band is 100% flush to the plastic. The Genuine CX300 was discontinued over 2 years ago so thats the 3rd Giveaway that the CX300-W's and most likely the CX300 black variant from "Deals on Wheels" are Really legit looking fakes. Also, None of the Amazon Merchants selling these are Authorized Sennheiser Dealers. BTW, the "Deals" from "Deals on Wheels" stands for really good deals (for them) by selling Counterfeit Products to people like us.
