Good mid-range value for the price,
By
This review is from: Sennheiser E815S-C Cardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone with Shock Mounted Capsule (Personal Computers)
Sennheiser has a long history (over 60 years) of producing good mid-range mikes and other sound equipment at affordable prices, and this new E815S-C fits the pattern. It's good for vocals through a PA or for miking up acoustic instruments, woodwind, brass or drums for recording. The sound quality delivered is pretty good, if not quite up to the standard of top-of-the-range professional recording mikes from Shure, AKG or Audix. In size and weight the E815S-C is average. Moulded in dark metallic grey finish with standard `flat-top ice cream cone' shape it has a strong metal-mesh top offering gig-serviceability and resistance to knocks and drops. Its on/off switch is in theory lockable via a small screw, but this of course means you will need a screwdriver if you want to change the locked setting. The 5m cable seems especially strong and well-built, but only time will tell if it's as durable in use as it looks. There is no wireless option. You do, however, get a durable-looking screw-mount mike holder in the package. A carrying pouch/box would have been nice, but none is supplied: it just arrives in a cardboard box. Well it's a mid-range mike so that's OK, but if you're using it for performing you'll need a transport bag for it. Overall, this mike is good at the price but not exceptional. For home amateur recording, voice-speech amplification and small venue gigs it's fine. However if you want something for bigger performance venues with more amplification and sound range clarity, you may have to go more up-market.

Great microphone for the money,

This review is from: Sennheiser E815S-C Cardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone with Shock Mounted Capsule (Personal Computers)
My wife and I record podcasts with this mic and it has really proven its quality to us. The sound quality is phenomenal. Read the other reviews for the real technical audiophile jargon, I just know it sounds great. I'll amend the review should anything go wrong with it, but having dealt with Sennheiser's great repair department before I know they'll take good care of me.
