I'll state up front that I am no audiophile, but I love music and I am pretty picky about how my music sounds. I ordered these so I can listen to some of my "parental advisory labeled" songs at work :) and let me tell you, for the price you'd be hard-pressed to do better. This is my first review for an item I bought at amazon, even though I've been a custumer here since 1996. Here's why:

I bought the Sennheiser EH-150 personally depressed, while looking for a decent set of headphones after my $149,95 Sony VibraBass cracked up, which had an awesome sound. I wanted to try something new and decent without spending so much money, and I since have already tried several (more than 10 or 15, each one ++$100) headphone sets, with "Ok I'm pleased" result, I thought I had nothing to lose.

Let me tell you, Sennheiser EH-150 headphone produces the best sound I have ever heard in my life, whether if it's Mp3's, DVD's, iPOD's, whatever, and from what I have read on other reviews of better models from Sennheiser, I am currently thinking in saving up to get any of the 500 or 600 series. I tell you it's worth it, the sound is simply awesome. You actually hear stuff you never heard before or never thought of hearing. Isolates external sounds very impressively. Feels like you can listen to each one of the channels .

Now problem is (and this is why I write the review): Sennheiser designers must still think mankind is Homo erectus or Homo neanderthal, not Homo sapiens sapiens. The headset is small and uncomfortable for normal-sized ears, and believe me I read a lot on other websites, and when I purchased it, I thought "Oh well, maybe these are just people with big ears". Got it wrong. I'm a normal-sized ear human being and these headphones are the best and everything, but after 3 or 4 hours... your ears get really hurt, and you just can't put them back for another 3 hours.

Trust me:

If you have big ears... save and buy the Sennheiser 500 or 600 series. Probably better quality than this ones (I haven't test them but it's logical they should be better, and I would really like to listen), and your ears will fit.

If you have normal-sized ears... save and buy the Sennheiser 500 or 600 series. Probably better quality than this ones (I haven't test them but it's logical they should be better, and I would really like to listen), and your ears will fit.

If you have small ears. Buy this.

3 1/2 Stars, because it's very uncomfortable.

I'll state up front that I am no audiophile, but I love music and I am pretty picky about how my music sounds. I ordered these so I can listen to some of my "parental advisory labeled" songs at work :) and let me tell you, for the price you'd be hard-pressed to do better. The sound is just awesome, I can't even find the right adjectives to describe it. Rich, full, textured, deep, etc. etc. You get the idea. I could pick up tiny details and even flaws in the music. I also found them to be very comfortable once I got them properly adjusted, but I will also say that I'm a girl, and my ears and head are probably smaller than a lot of guys' ears. I get headaches from anything that clamps my head too much or is too heavy, which is a problem with a lot of headphones. The EH-150s are light and rest on the head without being too tight, which is a huge plus for me.

Overall I would say they are totally worth what you are going to pay for them. To get much better than this, you'd have to go up considerably in price, and hey, some of us have other things to spend money on besides a $500 pair of headphones - like actual music to listen to. :) Get these cans!

These cans are a great deal and the price is great as well. Saw them advertised for a much higher price elsewhere.

Sound quality is supberb for this range and the isolating ability of these phones is better than some very expensive units I have.

They are light weight and comfortable and maximize my minidisc listening. I enjoy nature tapes (just the sound) and classical music where there is a full range from high to low and these are handling it very well.

They are good on the road as I travel via bus and they help with hearing the music and not the traffic.

Very pleased and I own several other types of this brand but these fit the bill.

5.0 out of 5 stars Found my Headphones finally!, December 19, 2005
This review is from: Sennheiser EH-150 Dynamic Sound Evolution Hi-Fi Stereo Headphones (Electronics)
Great sound, small size and simple design headphones.

I went through a dozen of headphones/earphones starting from cheap and upto very expensive ones Sennheiser HD-590 and Shure e3c.

In my experience, this is only one capable to deliver right amount of bass and the rest of the spectrum.

Funny thing, more expensive headphones get -> less and less bass you will get out of them and more and more treble. Boosting bass only creates more distortion, but no bass (as you would expect).

Another thing to consider: audio source. CD and MP3 are low quality sources with many digital artifacts that distort sound, sometimes pretty bad. More expensive headphones will only add more fire by accurately reproducing all of the imperfections.

In EH-150 case, these imperfections are not noticeable.
Digital imperfections are compensated by EH-150 imperfections. A final result yields pleasant experience even with low quality audio sources.

Reviews sometimes are very misleading. The best way, try to hear headphones first before buying.

EH-150 shares same cons with another closed type headphones (by design).

I know my hearing frequency range : 30 HZ ... 14,000 HZ. EH-150 fits and delivers to "my specs" perfectly.

Although, many who claimed 5 - 38,000 HZ, sounded more like 80 - (only God knows) HZ.

PS:
If you have pro audio store near you like SamAsh - Take some effort and visit this store. They have a rack of ~ 50 pro studio headphones hooked up to top quality audio gears. You will find the ones you like, guaranteed! Because you know exactly what you just purchased - it will save you trouble of any disappointment and following return hassle.

I glad I listen to my friend (pro) advise. Now I have headphones, I am completely satisfied with.

BTW, I fell for legendary SONY MDR7506 professional studio monitor headphones and the good part it is - it was only $99:-)

Good Luck!

4.0 out of 5 stars Best bang for your buck, May 26, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sennheiser EH-150 Dynamic Sound Evolution Hi-Fi Stereo Headphones (Electronics)
I recently got these headphones, and I'm impressed. I was tempted to order the cheaper HD-201, but all the reviews I read indicated that the bass was sub-par. For the price, Amazon can't be beat (provided they don't raise it over 25).

I am not an audiophile, so my review is subjective and I will try my best to be as objective as possible. The quality of these cans really depends on what you will use it for. If you already have, and are already researching headphones, then it's more than likely that these headphones won't suit you. But, of course, you'll also have to pay more than double the amount of these headphones to approach the quality you may be looking for.

I've tried these cans over PC games, console games, CD audio, and MP3. If distracting others is an issue for you, and that is why you want headphones then this is the best bang for your buck, in my opinion. I've tried several kinds of noise cancelling earbuds (mainly for MP3), but I'd be reluctant to call any of them comfortable. I think it's just the physics of the design - earbuds are just uncomfortable for long periods of time. Most of them are designed to cancel out ambient noise, while stressing the cavity of your ears.

Anyways, these cans perform well in games and action-packed movies. If you're looking for a pair of phones with absolute clarity, look some where else. These cans really capture the extra "uuumph" that you won't find without blasting your stereo. For that reason alone, I consider this a smart buy. I also have a relatively large sized head and ears (being a guy), but these are perfectly comfortable for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bam! These headphones rock!!! Literally., January 16, 2007
This review is from: Sennheiser EH-150 Dynamic Sound Evolution Hi-Fi Stereo Headphones (Electronics)
These headphones are comfortable, produce EXCELLENT sound, are constructed from high-quality materials, and are cheap. What more do you need to know? Ok, to go into a little more detail, these are simply the best pair of headphones that I have ever used. I like these headphones more than the Bose Triports and I definitely appreciate the amount of money that I saved by purchasing these. The headphones produce clear, loud highs and low, clean bass. I would definitely call myself an audiophile and I would definitely recommend these headphones to anyone who truly appreciates music.

2.0 out of 5 stars Sounds good, but the comfort was terrible., August 18, 2008

For context, I work in a cube farm so I wanted something that would provide some silence and music at the same time. I was looking for over the ear headphones with good sound quality. Sadly when I got these, I realized the over the ear area is WAY too small for an adult ear. So instead the foam presses up against the ear lobes, which doesn't block out the sound as I had hoped. Another item to note is the angle these sit on your head. Because it had one large plastic piece and the ear pieces are locked in, it can only be adjusted in one direction, which is ear height. I am an average height, average weight male so if they are too small and tight for me, it will likely be similar for others.

Summary:
Pros:
1) Good sound quality
2) Long cord
3) Price

Cons:
1) Not adjustable on angle. (can't be moved forward or backwards as far as where the top rests on your head)
2) Not adjustable for width of head. Only "stretches" which creates tension and pressure on the ears.
3) Does a poor job of blocking out ambient.
4) Ear cups will not fit over an adult ear. Do not consider these over the ear headphones.

I hope this helps other online buyers who won't have a chance to try them on before they buy.

Granted, I am very sensitive to how stuff feels -- that said, I am very a average sized woman with medium sized ears, and these squeeze my head. The actual ear cups are small also. It seems like they were designed to fit comfortably on a fine boned small woman only, and people who are not very sensitive.

Second, the sound is nothing special. I am not a musician in any way shape or form - so I don't know the correct technical terms, but here goes: The sound is not particularly clear, and you can't hear alot of the more subtle sounds. I listen to alot of music which has many different instruments, and voices overlapped, etc. and you really can't hear much separation. Maybe this is just what you get for $30?? My last headphones (which were much more expensive) had alot more range (they were the Sennheiser RS-110 Wireless), which broke after being dropped a bunch of times)

On the Pro side, they DO block out a great deal of ambient noise.

Soooo, I would say if you are a person with a small head, who doesn't mind mediocre sound quality, and doesn't want to spend alot on headphones, these are perfect for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Value for sound/price ratio, November 9, 2006

I think these headphones are great. Earlier I bougt the HD-202's which also sounded great, but those were unbearably painful to wear after a short time. So I returned them and ordered these.

I think the EH-150's have a great sound for twenty-something dollars. I feel like the HD-202's sounded better in that they were crisper with the treble than the EH-150's. I feel like the EH-150s are a little muffled in high frequencies, but these were just so much more comfortable in comparison to the HD-202's.

I think value-wise, these are some of the best you can get out there.

Not being an audiophile I have unusual requirements for audio headwear.

1) Comfort - While I was initially disappointed with the comfort, as soon as I turned on some tunes, the headphones absorbed into the side of my brain and became one. Still I think I'd rather have some full ear headphones that don't smush the sides of your ears against your skull. 4 out of 5

2) Portability - I used to use sony earbuds, the kind that hook around your ear, which provided great portability. I don't mind having the headphones, as those make up for their size by being able to stored easily or placed around the neck. However, I can literally walk around my entire room with the cord still plugged into the computer. I have no clue what I'm going to do with this wire. I was thinking I could just drape it around my neck a few times, but thats just asking to get snagged and strangled by a passing sideview mirror. 3 out of 5

3) Aesthetics - Hey if I'm going to be walking down the street with these they've gotta look cool. On me, these definitely do not. The plastic frame leaves a large gap between my head and the headphones, looking less like audio equipment and more like a pair of orthodontic head-wear. Maybe I'm just picky. 2 out of 5.

I'm giving this 4 stars cause I've never had good headphones before, and the sound I'm getting from these is pretty excellent. Of course, thats not exactly what I was looking for, but I'll settle for it until they break or I get some free money.
